Barack Obama has said he considered joining the United States military when he left school but decided not to because the Vietnam war was over and "we weren't engaged in an active military conflict at that point".

More to the point, Obama said he registered for the draft when he graduated high school in 1979. But the Selective service didn’t resume required registation until 1980.

Very good question! In the interview, he said he did register when he finished high school in Hawaii. The only problem with that? He graduated in 1979, and there was no requirement to register at that time. The Selective Service registration requirement was revived in 1980, when he was in California going to college. So when, if ever, did he register?

I truly fear for our country that so many can not see the flim flam man for what he is. Well they can’t see that the Democrats are the ones bringing down the economy, almost costing us a war. The Dems in office do not put their country first, they have done everything they could to make Bush look bad his second term. There was only a brief time right after September 11th in Bush’s first term that the Dems put their country first. Most of em voted for the Iraq war, then as the 2004 election approached, it became the wrong war at the wrong time: purely for political purposes from the Dems. They also used Katrina for political purposes: I mean I think Bush shares the blame for not recognizing that before it was to late. I truly believe that Blanco was on the phone to Hillary early on getting her instructions so that they could make the most of Katrina to bash Bush. Blanco, and Nagin refused to listen to Brown, and Brown did not tell Bush there was a problem there. They did not take Katrina seriously. Then when the fecal matter hit the fan, The did everything they could to push the blame on Bush via Brown. People lost their lives and the Dems were playing politics. I believe after the 2000 election, the Dems strategy became Lets make Bush a Failure, and they have done everything they could to ensure that outcome. Our economy was doing fine, til the midterm elections when the Dems took congress and the senate. All they been doing is playing games, deciding how best to screw Bush so they could ensure a Dem would win this time around.

SO, he didn’t join the armed forces, and went on to college to become highly proficient in Bovine Scatology. They’ll make up anything to fit a situation.
By the time he was eligible to enlist the war had been over for about for about 7 years. He was about 11 years old when the war officially ended.
So for this to be anywhere near accurate he has to be counting the whimsical musings of a child in order for him to say that he ‘considered’ it at all.

If you had to sign for the selective service at 18, this in his “mind” thinking of joining the military. We all had to do that and was required by law. I need to change my resume and run for office for the dems!
You forgot to mention he believes America has 57 states.

On Drudge it refers to this as “a fact not mentioned in either of his memoirs”. It should read “a claim...” or “a bald faced lie” but NOT “a fact”.
