Sarah Palin's baby shower included a surprise guest: her own baby. He had arrived in the world a month early, so on a sunny May day, Palin, the governor of Alaska, rocked her newborn as her closest friends, sisters, even her obstetrician presented her with a potluck meal, presents and blue-and-white cake.
Most had learned that Palin was pregnant only a few weeks before. Struggling to accept that her child would be born with Down syndrome and fearful of public criticism of a governor's pregnancy, Palin had concealed the news that she was expecting even from her parents and children until her third trimester.
But as the governor introduced her son that day, according to a friend, Kristan Cole, she said she had come to regard him as a blessing from God. "Who of us in this room has the perfect child?" said Palin, who declined to be interviewed for this article.

Damage control. I imagine they have been getting shredded because of their beyond-slanted coverage.
I hope you don’t mind, but I didn’t find the article balanced. It was 75% uterus, 20% special needs child and only 5% politics. Her political work was submerged to crappy comments about a crib in her office and nursing the baby during conference calls. You’d think the reporters from the NYT never met a woman who had given birth and held a job.
Here’s my take (as I don’t believe the NYTs ever does anything that’s not calculated.) They’re trying to shut up the bloggers that are still circulating rumors about the baby (even on DU yesterday they were saying they weren’t convinced about the baby story or she was a bad mother for flying back to Alaska to deliver.) They realize all the negative comments about Palin are contributing to her poll numbers, and they need to squelch the personal criticism in hopes of helping Obama, and prevent the backlash from the public that has resulted in more support for Palin.
Is this the purported NYT hit piece about which Drudge was “developing” yesterday? If so, my only reaction is where’s the hit?
As a working mother who read books for teaching while nursing, I applaud this article. Thanks for posting it.
It is also an article I can send to my liberal working mother friends and try to tip them towards Palin. :)
Thank you for posting it.
I can hear that old phrase,
“Stop the presses.”
Isn’t it strange the media are finally catching up with the true meaning of being a modern, vibrant woman managing career and family?
Imagine that!
I’ll give props to Sarah Palin’s husband too.
About the bloggers - the internet is free and welcomes all - we only need to sharpen our antennae - which I would rather do than have one commercial medium conglomerate tell me what to think.
I had the same thought. Drudge sure made it sound like some big unknown fact was going to come out in the story. It had me a little worried. Glad to read that there’s no way in heck this is anything but some left-wing-nut trumped up fantasy.
I seriously doubt she was "struggling" or "fearful" but it's the NYT, so that gotta get their hits in where they can.
My reaction exactly!
Perhaps Drudge at first knew only the title or subject and assumed as we would.
I think its a nice story. I enjoyed reading it.
Palin's anti-abortion pro-life convictions.
Fixed.
Scary. Makes one ask what evil deeds the NY Slimes is planning that it should initially wrap it in such a sweet package.
Viva the institution of marriage! Thank G-d for teamwork! Thank G-d for husbands and daddies!
Susan Estrich, of all people, was on one of the cable news shows last night trying to do the same thing. Estrich said, in effect, that her ‘Rat friends and their MSM water carriers should back away from their personal criticisms of Sarah Palin since the attacks were only fueling a sympathetic backlash for her.
I saw Estrich briefly on one of the shows, and she was commenting on the bias at NBC. She said she and her son had watched McCain’s speech, then tuned in for the NBC analysis to see if what people were saying was true, and she did think they were unusually biased against McCain.
