Sarah: How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska's Political Establishment Upside Down

I went to Barnes & Liberal at lunchtime and they had some of these on a table of books about the candidates. I picked one up and took it up to buy it. There were two older men in front of me in line. The one directly in front of me pointed to the Time magazine that was on the stand by the cash register and said something to the other one about “That Palin - she’s everywhere”. The guy in front turns around and says “I love her. She’s awesome.”

These two old men got into a rather lengthy exchange, with the first guy talking about how “independent” he is, but then going on about what a great senator Joe Biden is and how he didn’t think Palin had enough experience for the job. The other guy kept interjecting with “I don’t care. All I care about is that she’s smart and she has good decision-making skills. If she’s got those two things, she can do this job.” The first guy finally shut up, realizing that he wasn’t going to win. Then he turned to me and said something about how he was just “torn”. I held up my copy of “Sarah” and said, “I love her too. I think this is the best decision McCain’s ever made.”

He sulked up to the checkout and paid for his books and didn’t say another word.

Incidentally, the book on top of his stack was “The War Within”. I’m SURE he’s just sooooooooo independent.
