Legislature Passes Bill for 'Gay Day' Celebrations in California Public Schools
By Peter J. Smith August 8, 2008, SACRAMENTO (LifeSiteNews. com) - California public schools soon will be planning 'gay day' celebrations every May 22 unless Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoes the legislation.
Thursday the California Assembly approved AB 2567, which designates May 22 as 'Harvey Milk Day.' The 43 to 26 vote occurred on party lines with Democrats for, Republicans against.
Earlier this week, AB 2567 passed the California State Senate on another party line vote 22-13 - Democrats for, Republicans against. The bill will require all public schools to 'conduct suitable commemorative exercises' in commemoration of the anti-religious, homosexualist agenda of the late San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk.
According to a Senate analysis of the bill, 'This bill requires the Governor to proclaim May 22 as Harvey Milk Day. The designation of a day of significance triggers statutory encouragement for public schools to observe and conduct commemorative exercises suitable to the day.'
'This bad bill will teach impressionable schoolchildren the anti-religious, homosexual-bisexual -transsexual agenda of Harvey Milk,' warned Randy Thomasson, President of Campaign for Children and Families.
'If signed into law, AB 2567 will mean an official day commemorating homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality in California government schools…This will harm children as young as children as young as kindergarten. '
'The Democrats are so cocky, they have no qualms about pushing sexual indoctrination upon children in an election year.
For the love of God, parents and their children, we implore Governor Schwarzenegger to veto AB 2567' Thomasson said.

I also agree, Arnie will sign the bill. But every conservative parent should keep their kids home from school on that day in protest. The schools won’t like the loss of the ADA funds.
ADA= average daily attendance that determines the school revenue for daily student attendance.
I’m sure that once he passes we will have “Barney Frank Day” here in MA. and to make it an extra long weekend, for the hacks ,they’ll tack on “Gerry Studds Day”!

On this special day each school could serve hot dogs and/or tacos along with Hershey bars while they ask students to contemplate the implications.
Well, I’ve lived in California my entire life and I have to say this is shameful. However, I do disagree with the person who suggested keeping the kids home to “celebrate” Dan White day on the same day. It was an awful time in California history for all those involved.
My biggest concern is why there needs to be a day for Harvey Milk when some of his behavior can and should be defined as sexually perverse. I don’t consider this excpetional role model material for our children. His claim to fame is that he was an outspoken active homosexual male who willingly engaged in sodomy with other men. I’m sorry but I just don’t find that behavior noteworthy.
I’m also confused as to why this day is needed when in the month of June all of Californias gay communities come alive with gay parades and “pride” month.
I’m suppose to be non judgemental when it comes to someones sexuality but this suggests that in fact I’m being controlled in my own feelings about this situation. It’s just that I’m suppose to accept the behavior and say nothing about it. I’m a bitch if I say I’m opposed to this idea but then the person telling me to lighten up and just accept it wouldn’t be the bitch for telling me how to feel?

It’s one of those situations that blows me away. Had Harvey Milk been a straight man who had to work extra hard at getting the gay castro vote to win his district there would never be any mention of his political service.
Simply because he was a homosexual he gets a holiday in his name and we should all be OK with it because it was such an awful thing that happened to him. If anyone does a thorough search about all that mess they will find that Dan White had very little problem with Harveys sexuality. White was having issues with both the Mayor and Milk for making him look like a bumbling fool. The gay community realized this and needed for it to appear as if Whites main problem was over Milks sexuality when the truth was it was Milks politics he had the problem with. Milks death yanked the gay community out of the closet as they marched with candles the night of his death so they used his death as a catalyst to start their agenda. But who and what Milk really was is not at all worthy of some damn holiday.
I know of a few local heros ( Law enforcement, firemen and women, community leaders ) who have all died violently and simply because their sexuality was not displayed they are considered the silent heros and not one person suggests lets have a holiday in rememberance.
I’m amazed at the insult this mans name brings to the table when it comes to a state holiday.

It is obligatory and heartfelt to say these two men should not have died. What should be stated is that the lack of manly resolve, to talk things over with White, started him to his (and their) doom. It was felt by a San Francisco newspaper that it was not a "homophobic" act. It was one of being rejected.

After calling to comment on this bill through the automated system, I called again to comment on SB60 (perennial bill to give regular drivers licenses/ID to illegal aliens). For the 2nd call, I chose Spanish (pressed 2 for Spanish, then 2 for legislation), in case they categorized support by language.
You can't comment through the Spanish menu. The recording says something to the effect that there aren't any bills pending before the governor because, as of October 14, all bills are signed or vetoed. Not sure to what year the Spanish announcer was referring. So, I guess the illegal aliens have to follow the English menu if they want to support/oppose SB60. :)
Harvey Milk wasn’t killed for being Gay. he was killed because he was the witness to the murder of the intended target Mayor Musconi.

AB 2567 passed the California Assembly and the Senate and is awaiting Governor Schwarzenegger’ s signature or veto.
Fortunately, this is not a law - at least not yet. It is on Schwarzenegger’s desk for signature. He just needs to know if he should approve this piece of garbage or VETO it.
There is a simple way to let the Governor know what you want him to do. Here is how you can make your position known:

2) Press 1 for English
3) Press 2. This gets you into the poll to comment on legislation.
4) Press 1. This gets you into the queue to “vote” your opinion on AB 2567
