June, is there a bitter taste in your mouth?

If not, there should be.

"So what did that mean, more goobermint programs?"

Possibly. - This is in my opinion an area where such programs may be justified, depending on how they are structured.

Has anyone, anywhere ever written a news story in the MSM with a title like "Obama plan on [whatever] raises some doubts"?

That's not a rhetorical question. The answer is no. The only headline I could find anywhere with any variation of the phrase "raises some doubts" or "raises doubts" in reference to an Obama policy position is from a Linda Chavez op-ed piece, not a news story.

So, apparently, nothing ever said by Obama has ever raised any doubts in anyone's mind.

Thus speaks the Democratic Party Advocacy Brigade entire mainstream media.

So this group of parents of disabled children thought that Sarah should’ve brought the other children on stage, but hid the vile lump offstage, isolated and hidden from view? How PC of them.

Was Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin simply including her 5-month-old son, who has Down syndrome, in a big family moment,

Yes.

I had a cousin who was born obviously disabled. My aunt and uncle took him every where. Uncle sang semi-professionally so they were at a lot of public events. And so was Jimmy.

One night I remember his older sister and I were standing with Jimmy after the event. A very rude lady looked at Jimmy, gasped and said, "What is he?"

Faster then you could blink we moved in front of him and said loudly "He is OURS".

And so he was.

Others are wary of being labeled as social conservatives if they choose to have a child knowing it will have a cognitive disability.

WTF?

“Up to 90% of women who receive Down syndrome diagnoses for their fetuses have abortions, says Brian Skotko, whose practice and research at Children’s Hospital Boston centers on Down syndrome.”

I think this is the key phrase in June’s article.

There is a government program started by Ronald Reagan called "Deeming Waiver" (used to be called "Katie Beckett," but she grew up and asked that her name no longer be used). The program is for Medicaid for children with severe disabilities whose parents have income putting the family over the income limit for the child to get Medicaid based on household income. This program waives the deeming of income from the parents to the child and only counts the child's income, if any. The child has to be so disabled that without the parents to help, the child would be in a Nursing Home. Some severely disabled Downs children receive this Medicaid.

The Democrats try to scare families of disabled children by emphasizing that Republicans are going to cut funding, etc. What people don't understand is that Deeming Waiver is a STATE program. The STATE gets Federal funding in a lump sum and has control over that money and what programs they are going to fund with that money. Deeming Waiver probably doesn't cover too many Downs children, but it does cover severely disabled children whose parents' medical insurance has been topped out, children whose parents' medical insurance has been changed by an employer and the new company will not insure any prior illnesses, sometimes for a year, sometimes never, children whose parents' have no available insurance where they work or who have coverage only for the employed person and not the family.

Each State has varying rules and regulations but they are supposed to be available for the public at the State's HHS offices (DFCS, etc) and at larger libraries. Sometimes, as in Georgia, USofA, the regulations are online.

Parents of Disabled Children can band together to form lobbies in their State Legislature, they can take petitions to their Governors, they can form coalitions to monitor and contact State and Federal Lawmakers when bills come to the floor of the Legislature to let their needs and voices be known.

Or, they can join the PTA, run for Mayor of a small town, and then run for Governor of their State. That works.

Groups of parents of Disabled Children can affect how a State spends Federal Funds (OUR tax money being returned to our State). Joining one of the organizations related to children's disabilities and then getting involved is also advantageous.

When Democrats scream "Republicans will cut funding" they really mean "Your Own Legislature Will Cut Funding" and not necessarily "Republicans."

I don’t have a link, but I recall the WSJ was found to have the most liberal news coverage of any paper in the country.

The editorial board leans conservative. Kinda like Fox News; some of the commentators lean conservative, but the behind-the-scenes people are libs.

You can see their influence more often on the website, headlines, “The Ticker,’ etc.

Would he help break down social barriers facing children with Down syndrome, or would those children now be drawn into the right-to-life debate?

I don't see the dichotomy here. Ms. Media Beyotch would have aborted the little retard in a New York minute. How's that for breaking down social barriers?

Women’s March Into Office Slows
By June Kronholz
Word Count: 1,087
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton could be elected president next year, and Rep. Nancy Pelosi would likely remain Speaker of the House assuming the Democrats retain control of Congress. But otherwise, women’s long, steady march into public office could stall in 2008, and possibly even retreat.

No wonder she’s bitter and twisted!

June, poor thing is just a “dried up old prune” where it counts. She has now idea about TRUE family life, where family stick together, NOT MATTER WHAT. If June had one ounce of family “loving family”, she wouldn’t know what do with it. Should she ever have the privilege of having a family....Lord Help Them....cause I don’t think June can.

I have a two month old grandson with “special needs.” He was born with and will always live with the effects of spina bifida. Gov. Palin’s words that we will have an advocate in the White House thrilled us beyond measure. We didn’t have federal money or programs in mind.

When you see a potential wellwisher’s face freeze, when friends avoid you, when relatives stop asking about the baby, when adults with spina bifida say their worst challenge was failure of others to expect anything of them...knowing you have an “advocate,” someone who understands, means more than I can express.

We were told how sad it was our grandson’s condition was unknown until birth because something “could have been done.” Our grandson is the blessing of our lives, and a joy to all who bother to get to know him. Thank you, Gov. Palin, for your kind and understanding words.

People are murdering their children to avoid the label "conservative"?

Thank you so much for sharing this and including me in your ping. You and many others who live with the joy and challenges of special needs children and adults will always understand people like Sarah Palin and their significance in the world.

May God bless you and your family!
