He's danced over caucuses and superdelegates, skated past two dozen debates and 19 months on the trail, rolled through Jeremiah Wright and Hillary Clinton -- and a hockey mom from Alaska could be his undoing?

Eight weeks out -- his lead in the polls erased (for now), the money not quite flowing the way he anticipated, women voters impressed by the newest newcomer -- the weight of the race falls on Sen. Barack Obama's shoulders.

"I mean, mother, governor, moose-shooter, I mean, I think that's cool, that's cool, that's cool stuff," he said of Palin, just maybe with a touch of condescension.

Ya think?!?!?

He’s never had a real election fight to deal with. Hillary more or less imploded because Bill couldn’t keep his trap shut, and the rules were rigged once Hillary righted the ship and made her comeback.

That’s the key. He travels in a cocoon that produces statements about Arugula and Whole Foods and clinging.

He’s a moron.

I still can’t believe McCain made the right decision. I am very glad, though.

Exactly. Look at his performance in the Dem primaries. When he couldn’t count on the far left wing dominating caucuses or primary states with large African-American populations he lost just about everywhere. Obama was the perfect candidate for the Dem caucuses. That’s about it.

It’s little wonder that he’s trying to assassinate the character of his opponents because that’s the only way he’s been able to win a general election before.

He probably won’t go down McGovern-style, but it won’t be pretty.

Praise the Lord,

I think he is thinking, how can I be beat by a Hick who clings to their religion and guns?

McCain is 73 years old and is a melanoma survivor. Voters wonder if his would be an abbreviated Presidency.

With the selection of Governor Palin, he has turned that possibility into an asset.

Over a month ago, I said that my best case scenario for this election season was that McCain would somehow pick a conservative VP (but I couldn’t think of anybvesides Jindal), win the election, and then die early in office.

I hope he lives a long life, but passes the baton to Governor Palin after one term (and two or three SCOTUS replacements with conservatives).

If he does that, Senator McCain will have done more to advance the conservative cause than a whole boatload of Bushes.

The Mayo Clinic did as extensive analysis as could be done without actually seeing McCain. Their conclusion was that he had as good a chance as any normal male to complete a full four year term.

An average 70 year old male, with access to average health care can expect to live to age 82. Wouldn't surprise me to see him serve two terms.

Sarah is going to influence him greatly.

Wouldn't it be great to see him name two SCOTUS justices of the Sarah caliber? The resulting fight would be delicious to see.
