SEOUL -- North Korea put on a show of strength Wednesday in the face of reports that dictator Kim Jong Il is seriously ill, with his second-in-command holding a rare meeting with a foreign media organization to dispel the accounts.

Mr. Kim remained out of sight, however, a day after missing celebration activities for North Korea's 60th anniversary.

In neighboring South Korea, government officials reinforced reports that emerged from U.S. intelligence officials Tuesday that Mr. Kim suffered a debilitating illness recently.

Hans Brix

One of my favorite sketches in that whole silly film was Hans Brix and how Kim Jong Il dumped him into the shark tank.

I really hope the CIA has a DNA sample from the original Kim Jong Il. It’s sounding plausible that the one that’s been seen in public and meeting with heads of state in recent years isn’t the original, and if so, it’s not clear if the one that’s currently ill is the original or a replacement. And even if a dead body is finally presented, will we know if it was the original who dies?

I really feel sorry for whoever ends up having to run this country over the next decade or so. The population is starving, largely deluded and/or suffering from PTSD, and the majority possessed of only medieval level skills in agriculture and industry. Where to begin?
