SWINEGATE GENESIS & ANALYSIS: "Lipstick on a Pig" Template and Tom Toles Plagiarism [FINAL]

*** GENESIS ***

#1) Elizabeth Berry, of the Democratic Party, used the "Lipstick on a Pig" template, on Saturday, August 30, 2008:

[According to her Democratic Party profile, Elizabeth Berry lives in Garland, Texas. Curiously, though, there is a Wikipedia entry, on an artist named William D. Berry, who was married to a "Liz", or "Elizabeth", and who lived in Fairbanks, Alaska.]

#2) Bill Kristol, of The Weekly Standard, first noted that Sarah Palin refers to herself as a "Pitbull", with "Lipstick", on Tuesday, September 2, 2008:

Kristol on Sarah Palin, Hockey Mom

McCain aides whose judgment I trust are impressed by Sarah Palin. One was particularly amused by this exchange: A nervous young McCain staffer took it upon himself to explain to Palin the facts of life in a national campaign, the intense scrutiny she'd be under from the media, the viciousness of the assault that she'd be facing, etc.: Palin: "Thanks for the warning. By the way, do you know what they say the difference is between a hockey mom and a Pit Bull?" McCain aide: "No, Governor." Palin: "A hockey mom wears lipstick."

#3) At about 7PM, on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, the McCain campaign released excerpts of Sarah Palin's speech:

#4) Circa 10:30PM, on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, Sarah Palin unveiled the "Hockey Mom/Pitbull/Lipstick" meme to the nation at large:

#5) Early on the morning of Thursday, September 4, 2008, we learn that Sarah Palin's teleprompter was broken, and that she had to ad-lib her speech:

Palin & the Teleprompter

I’m told by a McCain aide that the teleprompter operator mistakenly rolled through the applause lines throughout the speech. So he rolled over the first two lines of the next paragraph after applause. But she was unfazed by it.

#6) NARAL used the "Lipstick on a Pig" template as early as the evening of Thursday, September 4, 2008:

#7) The "Lipstick on a Pig" template appeared at mybarackobama.com, on the afternoon of Sunday, September 7, 2008:

#8) Bob Beckel used the "Lipstick on a Pig" template on Fox News, on the morning of Monday, September 8, 2008, and Julien Epstein used similar language, on CNN, in the same general timeframe [possibly on Saturday the 6th, or Sunday the 7th]:

#9) On Tuesday, September 9, 2008, Ben Smith had to file two separate "lipstick" stories, three hours apart, about how Team Obama was using the "Lipstick on a Pig" template:

#10) Obama began plagiarizing the Tom Toles cartoon as early as Monday, September 8, as he admitted to Keith Olbermann:

Barack Obama’s Current Favorite Cartoon - by Tom Toles

#11) Finally, in his Swinegate remarks, Obama botched the delivery of the plagiarism of Toles's joke, and he had to go back and correct himself to get the joke to work properly, before finally pausing to deliver the "Lipstick on a Pig" kicker, which he also botched, in a most telling fashion:

YOUTUBE VIDEO: Obama Smears McCain-Palin As Lipstick On A Pig

Let let let's just list this for a second.

John McCain says he's about change too. Exce- and and so I guess his whole angle is - watch out, George Bush - except for economic policy, healthcare policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy, and Karl-Rove-style politics, we're really gonna shake things up in Washington.

That's not change.

That's that's just callin' sumpin' the same thing somethin' different.

But you know, you can't, you know, you you can put, ah, lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig.

Tom Toles, Cartoon, September 5, Washington Post

WATCH OUT, MR. BUSH!

WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ECONOMIC POLICY AND ENERGY POLICY AND SOCIAL ISSUES AND TAX POLICY AND FOREIGN POLICY AND SUPREME COURT APPOINTMENTS AND ROVE-STYLE POLITICS,

WE'RE COMING IN THERE TO SHAKE THINGS UP.

*** ANALYSIS ***

The key to understanding the Tom Toles plagiarism & the pre-scripting of the "Lipstick on a Pig" kicker is to watch how Obama botches the delivery of each template.

First, he's trying to remember how the Toles joke goes, but he's just a little too eager to blurt it out, and he jumps in with the "Excep-" part, but then he remembers that he forgot the "watch out, George Bush" preamble, so he has to backtrack quickly to cover up his blunder so as to get the Toles plagiarism right.

But then he's so eager to dive into the "Lipstick on a Pig" kicker that he botches that line as well - he starts to say:

You CAN'T put lipstick on a pig...

At that point, his left hand is in his pants pocket, but then he realizes that he's bungled this template as well, so he pulls his left hand out of his pants pocket, and brings it up to his forehead, scrambling furiously to try to remember how the joke works [he's screaming at himself: "What did they tell me to say? How does the setup lead to the punchline?"], and he pulls himself back together and remembers that they want him to say that:

You CAN put lipstick on a pig...

And so finally, after these two blunders, Obama finishes out the Toles plagiarism with the pre-scripted "Lipstick on a Pig" kicker.

TOPICS:
KEYWORDS:
Okay, I've been working with "Lipstick on a Pig" and the Tom Toles plagiarism for about 24 hours now - somebody else can take over - I'm zonked.

But after having reviewed all the evidence, and having analyzed it over and over and over again, there isn't a doubt in my mind that the "Lipstick on a Pig" kicker was pre-scripted by Team Obama.

Like Rush says...

“Obama makes the ‘lipstick on a pig’ joke, and his crowd is out there chanting, ‘No more pit bull!’

So it is very obvious that his crowd knew. They laughed and applauded.

They didn’t think it was just a standard political cliché overused by politicians of all stripes. His audience laughed, and this is his problem.”

Q: What do radical feminists, radical Islamists, Black panthers, anti-war radicals, and Barack Obama have in common?

A: They have all been comfortable calling other humans, “pigs.”

Another smoking gun, and an important one, is in the words about "old fish" that immediately follow the "lipstick" line.

"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink. We've had enough of the same old thing."

Who is the person who is upset about someone else preaching a message of “change?” Obama.
Who is the person who is preaching that message? McCain.
If the “piece of paper” is “called change.” then what is the “old fish” called?

Obama using the word “called” suggests that the symbols of fish and paper have real life meanings.

There is no denying that Obama is equating McCain with the “old fish” and therefore, the “pig in lipstick” is who?

Obviously, according to the crowd and all the other comments about Palin, it is none other than Sarah Palin.

This is not rocket science.

I don't agree. I think both references were to Palin. I think it is clear that the "Fish" referenced there is Sarah Baracuda. I don't recall anyone referencing McCain as any kind of "fish". The lipstick and fish references were both directed at Palin.

The crowd didn't get the second reference. I don't think many people did. I think he probably meant to say that you can wrap an "old Baracuda" in paper, but he forgot what fish Sarah Palin was nicknamed after. Without a teleprompter Obama is a bumbling fool.

That's my humble opinion.

Who is who is besides the point.

The point is that the word “called” means that OBAMA was assigning meanings to the symbols he was using.

It is irrefutable because he did so himself

paper CALLED change

means

paper = change

I swear, in a year we’re going to see the suffix “-gate” in the dictionary, defined as any political scandal or controversy.
