Obamania makes way for Palinmania

Even before Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska had appeared on the stage to introduce Senator John McCain, the Republican presidential nominee, the chant went up around the hall: "We want Sarah!"

A tear rolled down the cheek of a middle-aged woman volunteer who moments earlier had been barking orders to keep the exits clear.

A mother clutched the hand of her 11-year-old daughter, whose face was made up like a clown with stars and the letters P-A-L-I-N painted across her face.

Outside, queues which began six hours earlier snaked around the sports hall as more than 9,000 people filed in. Hundreds would be left outside.

They held home-made signs with slogans like "God, guns, lipstick" and "Read my lipstick - Palin."

A vendor had run out of badges with Mrs Palin's picture and the legend: "Coldest State, Hottest Governor."

That was a fun read.

Obambi looks like he is becoming yesterday's news. Nobody I know is talking about him any more at all.

In watching the MSM come up with an answer for McCain’s VP selection, I’m reminded of two things:

1.)Primates at the local zoo slinging sh*t against the wall to see what sticks.

2.)The T1000 dying in a vat of molten metal at the end of Terminator 2, switching shapes and faces in desparation as the inevitability of the situation closes in.

McCain proved us all wrong. We railed about how he would never pick a running mate that would overshadow him, but I think he made the perfect choice. Sarah is quite willing to be his VP and from what I have read, she will be loyal to him and never try to undercut him at all.

At least there were no fack a roo “fainting” episodes.

I think it is great that Sarah inspires so many women, now hopefully she can also educate them about Conservatism as well.

I like her enough that I’m putting aside McCain comes with her. Mainly based on the hope he retires in four years and lets a conservative finally win the W.H.

But, I just hope when this ferver dies down a little people aren’t disappointed that she isn’t completely perfect. ;-) I’d like to think they won’t be, since she isn’t pretending to be something she’s not and she has substance. That was what Obama’s “celebrity” campaign lacked.

I do love that without trying she’s completely stolen Obama’s main asset in this campaign and the Democrats do not know how to respond.

I've never seen anything like this my whole life except some of my teenage friends over Elvis, not that she is in any way like him, and this excitement is different but real. Obama had a similar effect on his devotees, but there is more of a mystique about Sarah. But it appears people either love her or hate her. This woman will not be jettisoned from the national psyche no matter how things turn out.

Part of me feels a little sorry for her, how her life has already been turned upside down and her family's as well. She's handling it well so far, hope her family holds up to all the ugliness. I'd get homesick for Alaska fast and my old, familiar life if I were in her shoes.

There are old rednecks who would have thrown me out of the local restaurant two weeks ago if I'd said they'd ever vote for a woman

"Now Sarah Palin comes along and they're like a bunch of school kids tripping over themselves to listen to her."

Sarah is the real deal. It doesnt matter how much mud they sling or how much money they spend or how much the media lies and whines...Palin will capture the heart of most Americans.

There was an old western titled "Paladin" AKA "Have Gun, Will Travel". It's a little too old for the average voter. If only I were more creative, I could make some kind of cute word play with one of the weekly signatures:

Think Princess Diana. This infatuation with Sarah is very real and deep and it is only going to grow.
I hope it doesn’t ruin her. Prayers for Sarah!

The infatuation is truly real and deep, never thought I'd live to see something like this actually. I don't don't show my emotions like the crowds do, the cheering and waving signs with such abandon, but that doesn't mean I don't feel enthusiasm inside.

Why didn't I think of her (Princess Di)? I always liked her, a beautiful, fascinating, admirable woman in many ways; I didn't read every book on her life, etc., did pay attention sometimes. Maybe Sarah will never achieve her worldwide celebrity status. I don't see that. This is an American thing. I like Sarah better because there was nothing about Princess Di's life I could relate to except motherhood and her emotional problems but mine manifested a lot differently from hers, and I've no doubt she loved her children, but she didn't do a lot of the day-to-day caring for them so I can't relate to most of that. Sarah has actually cooked and I presume all the things I did for my children when she could. Pls excuse the run on sentence there.

I'll keep Sarah in my prayers; it's hard to know how to pray for her except like you said, she will not let any of it change her except for the better, for wisdom, strength, grace, and protection for her and family.

As is said in the article, she is real. Compare her to Barack, who is so phony. Didn’t really fit in as an African-American, so he attended that church and affects a Southern accent. Didn’t fit into Chicago society, so he became a buddy of that Chicago establishment icon, Ayers. Didn’t really fit in at the U of Chicago, where he never wrote articles or participated in the day to day back and forth of academic life. Always an outsider, an observer, an anthropologist observing the habits of a strange cannibal tribe, like his mother. Why does a man like that even get into politics?

Nicely put.
Agreed, Sarah is more the “every woman”. There is something very special going on with her. I have a hunch a higher power is involved and that is why I believe our prayers will be heard and answered.
