Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez says two Russian bombers have arrived in the country to carry out training flights.
The Russian Air Force said the bombers would be based in Venezuela for several days and fly over neutral waters.
Earlier this week Russia confirmed that it would send a Navy squadron and long- range patrol planes for joint exercises with Venezuela in November.
Mr Chavez has developed close relations with Moscow, including the purchase of Russian arms and co-operation on oil.
Hugo Chavez announced that two Tu-160 bombers would carry out manoeuvres, saying that it was part of a move towards a "multi-polar world".
"I'm going to fly one of those beasts," he joked.

Tu-160

I wonder if the experts call the Tu-160 the “B-1ski” (even though the
Tu-160 is bigger.
But the silhouette (sp?) of the Tu-160 compared to the B-1 is a
similar situation as comparing the “Concordski” to the Concorde!!!

" In a vein effort to get Obama elected? "
I think it will have the opposite effect.
Obama has NO foreign affairs experience ( in spite of his bogus Europe trip as the MSM/LIBS/DEMS have claimed as his " Foreign policy experience ) ... and Obama has NO executive experience....
Hopefully American's will wake up and realize that out of all the candidate... John McCain is well and able to challenge this Russian threat.

I’d forgotten what the Tu 160 looked like. I just have to think that it would be a sitting duck without AWAC support and any stealth to speak of. Does anyone know if that is anything more than a giant target drone?

They can eat it for food when we blockade them. This should be considered a act of aggression on their part and we should let them and Putin know where we are going to stick it.
