Palin candidacy stokes debate among women
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 9/11/8 | Carla Marinucci

In a presidential race in which unexpected factors like lipsticks and pigs have driven questions about sexism and feminism, a central question remains: What do women want?

This is especially true now that Alaska's Republican Gov. Sarah Palin, a self-described hockey mom, is a major player in the race - and is shaping its coverage and its issues in surprising ways.

"Palin was incredibly clever political strategy," said Rosemary Camposano, spokeswoman for WomenCount.org, a nonpartisan campaign group founded to support Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential effort that now is working to advance women's political issues.

"It shows the Republicans asking themselves: What is the undercurrent moving people in this country? Where is the untapped energy for this election?" she said. "And they figured it out. It's women."

With less than 60 days before voters go to the polls, the debate among women on Palin - and on women's issues - is just hitting its stride.

Already, two polls this week show the race in a dead heat, and McCain-Palin hold a double-digit lead among white women, a turnaround from before the Democratic National Convention, when Obama held the advantage.

That's a disturbing sign for Democrats, who have a narrowing window to recover their mojo among women since more than two dozen states allow early voting. In California, that means voters can cast absentee ballots beginning Oct. 6 - less than a month away.

Powerhouse California-based GOP fundraiser Kristin Hueter said Palin already has become the tidal wave that can shift the race.

“...WomenCount.org, a nonpartisan campaign group founded to support Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential effort...”

They actually said this with a straight face.

No, lady, Palin is NOT an "incredibly clever political strategy",

she's specifically been called by God to be in this position at this time in our history. Her life story couldn't be any more perfect for this time in our country's history. God has shown mercy on a country that has turned its back on Him.

I kinda wondered the same thing when I read that sentence. How can they be non-partisan, but be founded to support Clinton’s run for the Presidency?

“a non-partisan group founded to support Hillary Clinton for President” kind of like “mainstream” media?

“What do women want?”

I detest that question....

“What do blacks want..
“What do illegal aliens want....
“What do the hispanics and the gays want.....”

No one cares what men want! lol

How about asking, what do AMERICANS want?

Looks like they want another American! Like Sarah!

I have my own money and didn’t get it from ANY man, but I’m up for your soul, if you have one. :<) I seriously doubt if Sarah Palin ever needed or wanted any man’s money.

Whine much?
