Susan said she saw that there was Sharon's blood on her hand and she tasted it. "Wow, what a trip! To taste death, and yet give life."

Oh, I wish I had seen that. I can remember in elementary school we learned about the Rosenbergs, and that was when they took the opportunity to teach us the word "scapegoat." Think there was a little bias there? I seem to recall being taught that they were just being persecuted because they were Jewish. It was only a few years ago that I learned otherwise, and I think it may have been because of this forum.
Amazing book. One of those books that I wish everyone would read.

I was a relative youngster growing up in NYC during that trial, but I can tell you that the overwhelming majority of people believed the Rosenbergs were guilty. It was only the continual harping by their children and other communists and left-wingers for years to come that spread the idea of their innocence.

Meanwhile Joe McCarthy stirs a little uneasily in his grave. How many of those he went after and failed to get, did smirk and wallow in the good living, America gave them ,before they went to their graves?

There is no such thing as defensive weapons. Or offensive weapons. They are just weapons.
How they are employed determines the offensive or defensive use of those weapons. Most can be used for both roles.
E.G. (apparently the type of weapons this guy worked on)
If you use proximity fused AAA to shoot down attacking aircraft, that is defensive employment.
If you use the same weapons to target infantry with airburst bombardiment, you can blow a hole thru the lines for your attack. Offensive employment.
Same weapons, two different employments. AAA is usually called defensive...
