Seriously though, why in the John Effin’ Kerry are we naming an aircraft carrier after Gerald Ford? Unless the person received the CMOH, or had some huge historical significance, they should NOT be naming our Navy’s ship after people.
Every class of ship is named after something -
CVNs of the Nimitz class are named after Presidents or people who were navy supporters/heroes (Carl Vinson, John Stennis and Nimitz)
SSBN Ohio class boomers named after states
SSN Los Angeles class Attack subs after cities
SSN Virginia class attack subs are named after states.
The Jimmy Carter is a one off the Seawolf class which ave no naming convention - USS Seawol, Connecticut and ole Jemmy C.
Ticonderaga class CGs are named after famous battles
