22 dead, scores injured in New Delhi bomb blasts

NEW DELHI (AFP) - Five synchronised bomb blasts ripped through crowded markets across the Indian capital New Delhi on Saturday, killing more than 20 people and wounding at least 90 others.

Police said a further four unexploded devices were found and defused, including one at India Gate, one of the country's most iconic monuments and a major tourist attraction in the heart of Delhi.

A Muslim militant outfit, Indian Mujahideen, claimed responsibility for the bombings, which were all triggered within a 45-minute period.

"In the name of Allah, the Indian Mujahideen has struck back again. Do whatever you want. Stop us if you can," the group said in an email sent to several media outlets minutes before the first blast at around 6:30 pm (1300 GMT).

Little is known about the origins and make-up of the militant group, which had also claimed responsibility for a wave of bombings in July that killed at least 45 people in the western commercial city of Ahmedabad.

Security services suspect it may be a front for outfits banned by the Indian government over the past few years such as the Students' Islamic Movement of India

That’s what the wise folks who’ve been running India for while say everytime there’s an attack like this-which is once every few months over the past. “We appeal for calm-won’t bow to terror” stuff!!Hot Air, No action.

On a personal note, I was in my office which is barely 10 minutes walking distance from the Greater Kailash-I M-block market where two bombs went off. Surreal to think of it!!

Assume what you want. My point is that just because the Hindus are enemies of Moslems the old saying “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” doesnt apply here.

Well it certainly may not in India’s case as far as the west is concerned. Afterall, the US still arms a nation that has been sending terrorists to India for over 25 years and has killed over 50,000 people.

Somehow, the threat of militant Hindus flying airplanes into our buildings doesn't concern me...

The Hindu-on-Christian violence you allude to is a turf war over cash and influence - the locals resent foreign evangelists diverting funds from the local power structure. Murdering the Christians is hardly an appropriate response, but it is a response to a specific local issue and not a generic Jihad against Christianity and the West in general.

Let's keep our eyes on the ball.

The more I hear of Hindus burning churches and massacring Christians the less these reports bother me.

The "Hindus" and the "Christians" in the state where this happened, namely Orissa, are tribals mis-labeled for the convenience of nomenclature. The "unconverted" tribals are named "Hindu" simply because they follow their native beliefs, and the others, "Christians" because they have been "converted". The "Hinduism" or the "Christianity" of those tribals have nothing to do with mainstream Hinduism or Christianity.

A funny bunch, the whole lot of them, especially when you read about the Catholics and Pentacostals contesting to harvest souls, one-bag-of-rice-a-family, at a time.

When the two groups go at each others' throats, there's violence from both sides. Here's more of the "Christian version" from the north-east of India:

National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT)

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/para/nlft.htm

The National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) was formed in December 1989 for the purpose of seceding from India in order to create an independent Christian fundamentalist state of Tripura. The group was banned under the Unlawful Activies Prevention Act of 1967.

The headquarters of NLFT is located in the Khagrachari district of Bangladesh, about 40-45 km southeast of Simanapur.

In Tripura a systematic surrender of arms by a faction of NLFT insurgents and NLFT fringe groups is due to the increased security pressure and to infighting within NLFT insurgent ranks. Since 2000 a few hundred militants have surrendered in small groups to the security forces, handing in their weapons. The NLFT leadership engaged in peace talks with Mizoram Chief Zoramthanga in April 2001, however the NLFT has not promised acceptance of any future peace process.

The NLFT has set up a number of camps in Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), in the Sylhet, Maulavi Bazar, Habiganj and Comilla regions. NLFT also has ties with Pakistan’s external intelligence agency, the Inter Services Intelligence Agency (ISI).

And:

http://www.manipuronline.com/North-East/November2005/tripura23_1.htm

EXCERPTS:

Gradually with land and identity as the focus point of their ideology, common acrimony against the non-tribals particularly the Bengalese (Hindu) and inter-ethnic rivalry led to the formation of over 30 insurgent outfits at different levels, though NLFT and ATTF remained the most active groups and continue their supremacy till today. They are mostly involved in criminal activities like smuggling, kidnapping, extortion, looting, rape and drug trafficking. Of late some of the insurgent groups have also taken up the business of pornography to raise funds and now insurgency more or less has become a business for them. The leaders of the mainstream political parties and other vested interests on the other hand use them for their self-seeking interest.

...

Of the various insurgent groups ATTF and NLFT are logistically better equipped. Majority of the NLFT members is devoutly Christians, who at the instance of their supporting Mizo rebels associated with some Christian missionaries are also known to be engaged in forceful conversion. This led to split in NLFT, when its members belonging to Jamatiya tribe revolted under the leadership of Nayanbasi Jamatiya and formed an independent faction of NLFT. The factional fight and intra-tribe feud further aggravated the ethnic turbulence.

Hear anyone talking about the oh-so-peaceful Christian terrorists of Tripura?

Read more about them, those are tribals going at each other, more than they are “Christians” or “Hindus”. The “Christians” of Nagaland and Tripura, in their violent acts, will disgust even the most devout. Do read the CIA / Global Security etc., reports on the same, before making asinine generalisations.

To call them "Hindus" would be like calling The Lord's Resistance Army thugs, Christians.

If Hindus really had it against Christians, quote the line and verse that specifies that Hindus to attack the nonbelievers. I can do that with the Quran. You do that with the Bhagavad-Gita.

well, two things — the Orissa burnings were in a separate part of India — about as far as Texas is from DC. Second, the people killed in this included Christians —> India’s Christians are mostly in the cities (Bombay, Delhi, Madras), in the South and West (Goa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mangalore) and in the North-East of India (Mizoram, Nagaland are nearly 100% Baptist)

So I guess to be fair, the US should just pull out of that area completely and let them have at each other.

India would destroy Pakistan while the neo-USSR and the ChiComs stand by. The neo-USSR would continue to swallow up the small democracies around them in order to maintain control over the oil and distribution...all this in an effort to acquire the wealthy they believe will compensate for the drastically falling population.

In a few years the ChiComs will start reclaiming the lands that Russia took a hundred years ago. The ChiComs will move in until the neo-USSR is one of their satellite countries.

Then the ChiComs will begin fulfilling their ultimate goal of complete control of the Pacific rim, which will extend to India, at which point, the US will have sanctions against China, which means most US companies will pull out the offshore-programs they have in India.

Sounds good to me. Eff ‘em all, raise our defensive shield, and point ours at the ChiComs.

But God forbid we help a country that is helping to control the terrorists it has, if it annoys one of our ‘allies.’

They are communists at heart.

They abandoned the economic policies that the USSR followed. They adopted some aspects of capitalism in order to acquire the wealth they need to bring their military up to the 21st century.

Their goal is still communist at heart. Once they have the control they want, they will abandon capitalism and free markets and return to iron-handed tyranny.

Even I know what Godhra was about-there was a mass element involved. But that doesn’t make it any more justified or understandable.Any government which attempts to “let off” steam will give space for mob rule.

About what I want-well it’s always been the same.Strong anti-terror laws,a working justice system and Pakistan being put in paralysis mode. Don’t think all of that will happen, whoever is in power. I expect the sorry bunch running India to be booted out next year.

Any government which attempts to “let off” steam will give space for mob rule.

Sukhoi, the pols are always 2 steps behind. When the bodies reached Ahmedabad from Godhra, there were a million angry people on the streets. and only 5000 cops of whom only a handful were armed. The pols got in later, despite whatever you read reported in the media.

Its not a question of the govt "letting-off steam", its the people who are going to decide when they've had enough. The media will hyper-ventilate and make it worse.
