I think McCain is being proactive and taking away Obama’s biggest weapon.
I could have sworn I saw something here on FR that said that Bill Clinton told Obama to start talking about McCain and immigration in order to divide up the conservative base which would offset the Palin support and enthusiasm.
Does anyone else remember reading that?

Does anyone else remember reading that? No, but I don't doubt that it's true. Clinton may be lower than a snake's belly, but you have to admit that he's a political mastermind. If he wasn't he would never have been elected to a second term.
