N. Korean leader Kim Jong-il, who is said to be ill, have been in a serious condition since April, occasionally losing consciousness, which made him unable to deal with important matters promptly, according to Sept. 14 report by Mainichi Shimbun of Japan.
The paper quoted credible Chinese source versed in N. Korean affairs.
Kim tends to work at night and in early morning, but his illness got worse in May and June. He was unable to work at night, and his judgment has been impaired. That is why N. Korea was unable to cope flexibly with matters like 6-party talks.
Xi Jin-ping, China's Vice President, was about to visit N. Korea on last April, the time when he started to exhibit the symptom of frequently losing consciousness. He wanted to do everything to make Xi's visit a success. Kim drastically curtailed his workload for two months prior to the visit and focused on his treatment and convalescence.
According to the source, Kim's condition had progressively worsened since the summer last year, with his multiple internal organs such as kidney and heart developing problems
