Rove: McCain ads gone too far
Politico ^

Posted on 09/14/2008 10:44:24 AM PDT by hotdog777

Karl Rove said this morning that John McCain's attacks against Barack Obama have stretched the truth.

Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Rove said McCain had "gone one step too far, and sort of attributing to Obama things that are, you know, beyond the 100-percent-truth test.”

McCain has come in for scathing criticism from many in the media and independent fact-check organizations for his recent hard-edged campaign tactics. But few Republicans, and none as prominent as Rove, have criticized McCain.

The former political adviser to President Bush didn't confine his critique to McCain, though.

"Both campaigns are making a mistake, and that is they are taking whatever their attacks are and going one step too far," he said. "They don't need to attack each other in this way."

On a new Obama ad released late last week, Rove said it was a fair point to call McCain "a longtime Washington insider.”

“But they then say he doesn't …send e-mail. Well, this is because his war injuries keep him from being able to use a keyboard. He can't type. You know, it's like saying he can't do jumping jacks."

Once again from Politico, the thesis/headline does not match the quotes from Rove.

So, it sounds like the real criticism was for Obama and his digusting attack on Mccain's inability to type. but the press has to turn the story around and make it sound like that was just an aside.

So now the Left is going to start quoting Karl Rove?

Talk about the world turned upside down...

Rove as Bush’s brain, kept this adminsitration from fighting back against the smears of the left with out right lies and name calling for years. This hurt the Republicans IMO.

Two things. Number one - I don’t see where he mentions the specifics of where McCain has gone too far, so we just have to trust him on that. Right. Number two - the good news in all this is that Obama would NEVER stretch the truth in any of his ads. He’s much more high minded than that.

Maybe I’m reading this wrong, but doesn’t the second sentence in the article match the headline?

IOW, Rove said "both sides are using very negative ads."

Big news, that.

I can live with the ads. Afterall, we’re talking politicians here. It’s the attacks on the Palin family that makes me sick. Rove needs to understand, McCain doesn’t have the MSM and Hollyweird to do his smears and ridiculing for him. He has to do the best with what he’s got.

Doesn’t seem like “Rove: McCain ads gone too far” is the same as “”Both campaigns are making a mistake, and that is they are taking whatever their attacks are and going one step too far,””

This was taken totally out of context. I watched.. Rove was arguing that both sides were stretching the truth.

But now that I think about it. I can see this in a Obama ad.

Rove works for Fox News and not a political candidate now and they want a tight race to sell ads and keep interest up.

I guess the internal polls see McCain/Palin running away with this, so this wrench in the system.

I agree!!! It certainly made the RATS & libs love Bush, didn't it??

Be nice to them & they'll stomp you down worse the next time!!

They play dirty - so why act like we don't notice? Silence is consent...& we don't need to go there.

I’ve seen the usual assortment of liberal media outlets claiming that one thing or another from McCain is untrue, but I have yet to see any of them explain how they arrived to that conclusion.

It’s a sad sad day when Karl Rove joins their ranks.
Especially because this guy knows better than anyone how quotes are used by political campaigns.
He just gave the Obama campaign a huge in-kind donation.

Am I the only one who remembers Rove’s 11th hour pie in the sky predictions in 2006?
