Why Doesn't McCain Use a Computer? [Explains McCain's War Injuries]
abcnews ^ | Jake Tapper

Assuredly McCain isn't comfortable talking about this -- and the McCain campaign discouraged me from writing about this -- but the reason the aged Arizonan doesn't use a computer or send email is because of his war wounds.

I realize some of the nastier liberals in the blogosphere will see this as McCain once again "playing the POW card," but it's simply a fact: typing on a regular keyboard for any sustained period of time bothers McCain physically.

He can type, he occasionally does type, but in general the injuries he sustained as a POW -- ones that make it impossible for him to raise his arms high enough to comb his hair -- mean that small tasks make his shoulders ache, so he tries to avoid any repetitive exercise.

Again, it's not that he can't type, he just by habit avoids when he can repetitive exercise involving his arms. He does if he has to, as with handshaking or autographs.

Another RAT lie exposed. I’m sure Obama’s campaign will apologize for claiming McCain was computer illiterate.

I’ve always taken Jake Tapper for another left liberal, but lately he seems to be playing it straight.

Tomorrow (Monday) or is when the shiite is going to hit the fan over this ad when Rush, Laura, Hannity, Miller, et all sraert discussing it. Tomorrow is gonna be a bad day for Team Obama.

Or maybe tonight when Batchelor and Cunningham discuss it.

Again, I’m calling for Obama to aplogize for this ad and sack David Plouffe for mocking a POW’s wounds. The Rats would be calling for the same if a republican did this.

So what if McCain depends on his wife to read his emails to him?

Edith Wilson handled all her husband's communications, when President Wilson suffered a massive stroke.

When Bill Clinton was president he only sent TWO emails.

Do you ever hear the MSM talk about that?

I mean, to be fair, McCain himself has said “I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself. I don’t expect to be a great communicator, I don’t expect to set up my own blog, but I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need. I don’t e-mail. I’ve never felt the particular need to e-mail.”

http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/07/mccain-says-hes.html

There are also photos of him using a cell phone and a Blackberry, so it’s pretty clear that he _could_ email.

I mean, it was kind of a weak and stupid ad, but I try as I might, I can’t see this as “mocking his injuries”.

The ad is not a direct attack on macs disabilities. However it shows that those that put the ad together don't know how to google. But stupidity and cleverness sometimes have unintended consequences. They ran the add , they own it , people will take it any way they see fit. To try to explain away or to define responses for others is futile.

I’ve been working with computers since the 60’s after I got out of the army.

I personally prefer the ‘Biblical’ method of typing, ‘Seek and thou shall find’.

I have spent many years as a programmer, systems analyst, systems specialist, and even systems engineer but I have never learned to type without looking.

I type pretty fast which makes sense after spending so many years, but I still look at the keyboard.

I play all the brass musical instruments and even played a little flute and clarinet, but I never really memorized a keyboard ayout.

Makes me wonder how many more men and women who have earned the Purple Heart Obama intends to mock during this election?

I’m shocked at how well the media has kept a lid on this story, but I don’t think they can continue.

I’m going to write about it in my tiny column on Wednesday. We should all right letters to the editor about it. We should write to ANY reporter who mentions Obama or this ad, to point out that they didn’t do their jobs.

I presume Rush and Sean and the others will be all over this on Monday — maybe that will help.

One thing that is hurting is that McCain will NOT bring this up. He won’t let his campaign say it, he won’t let his advisors say it.

But we can do the job for him.

What we really need is for some disabled veterans to pick up the story and run with it. Get a group together in each town where they live, and hold a press conference calling on Obama to apologize for his slander of wounded veterans.

Local papers will cover local stories like that, and it will percolate. Eventually Obama will have to SAY SOMETHING. And there is nothing he can say which won’t beg the question of why he kept silent.

If Obama keeps texting hot white girls like Scarlett Johannsson [sic?] Michelle’s gonna bust his fingers up worse than the NVA did to McCain.

McCain says this because he downplays his injuries, because he is in many ways a modest man.

Obama has misused this modesty to attack him for his war injuries.

"aged Arizonian" they just can not help themselves. Can we call Obama the Black Hawaiian? I thought not.

I tried to post a comment to YouTube as well—it was the Obama campaign video in question here. It came back that it was pending approval. None of my other comments on YouTube have ever said that. I’ve never posted a video at YouTube but maybe you can post something and then have censorship ability.

I type from drafts and copy, so have to use the touch typing method instead of the hunt and peck method. (The home-key method is easier than falling off a log, but if the other way works for anyone that’s all that matters.)
Home Keys are asdf for the left hand and jkl; for the right hand, with specific fingers hitting the surrounding keys. It quickly becomes second nature, and if the fingers ever get off those eight home keys you immediately feel it and automatically correct. - You don’t really have to much consciously memorize the keyboard. - If you play musical instruments, touch typing would be easier than falling off a log backwards. (I’ve never been able to coordinate enough to play piano or any other musical instrument. May just not have started out early enough to learn and now am too lazy, I admit.)
