Schweitzer 'joke' may have grain of truth By JENNIFER McKEE Gazette State Bureau

UPDATE 3:30 p.m. : HELENA - Gov. Brian Schweitzer said this week he was "just joking" this summer when he suggested he tampered with the hotly-contested 2006 Senate election.

However, at least one Big Horn County observer was escorted out of a Crow Indian polling place that election night, (snip) Schweitzer has been criticized this week for remarks he made to a lawyer’s group in Philadelphia this July. In the remarks, Schweitzer insinuates that he tampered with election to secure a victory for Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Tester over incumbent Sen. Conrad Burns.

Schweitzer told the group that Democrats wanted to make sure American Indians turned out to vote because they generally vote Democratic.

Schweitzer said Democrats had a plan to have tribal police attempt to arrest poll observers on bogus charges. (snip) He said he called the election office and talked to an election clerk who was "as nervous as a pregnant nun."

As a Catholic woman, McMahon said she was offended by Schweitzer's "pregnant nun" comment and demanded an apology on behalf of all women.

She said she is angry over Schweitzer's suggestions that Butte elections could be fixed.

(snip) In the July speech, Schweitzer said there was no room for error in the 2006 Senate race, so "we were prepared."

"And the advantage is, you know, when you've got a governor of a state on your side, whoa!" a transcript of the speech says. "You can turn some dials and we did."

Tester wound up defeating Burns by only about 3,500 votes out of around 406,500 cast in a three-way race.

Mont.and Pa. it seems are having the ACORN problem that Dems do in every, every federal election. No one investigates them. No one cares except AFTER the election. It is time for the Pubs to really spread the info on election fraud. Whether it is voting felons, not voting military ballots et al, it is time for the Pubs to stop being wussies on this affair.

When obama was in Billings he went to the Crow, made an honorary member. They gave him an honorary name, can't think of it now, but the locals call him white eagle

I thought it was "Walking Eagle" (as in too full of it to fly).

I am not sure about what he said at the convention about FOX, but I did hear him on airhead America one day where he is a regular guest, call folks that want to drill our own resources a bunch of knuckle heads!

Imagine that? We want to develop our own resources for matters of National Security and that makes us knuckle heads!

Montana is turning red and we need to do what we can to not send Sen. Baucus back for another term as the sitting chairman of the Committee on Finance.

With all the problems in the financial markets we have to question the competence of the person in charge.

The dems say that we can’t afford 4 more years. I say we can’t afford two more years like the past two where they have been in charge.

We lost majority control of the Senate by one!

If Tester was elected by fraudulent means done at the bullying tactics of Schweitzer then they both should share a cell.

Did you see Schweitzer speak at the Democrat Convention?

I just happened to flip on the tube and there he was.

What a buffoon.

Ironically, the Crow Indians were on the side of Custer and the US Army during the Indian Wars.

Now they've thrown in with the other Victim Groups in the Rat Party.

I see you are from Idaho.

My cousin and her spouse moved there from San Francisco 20 years ago. They were UC Santa Cruz alumni.

At the time there was a lot of talk about Californication, but they said they were merely returning to their roots as the family had pioneered in Idaho 100 years ago.

They were both Obama delegates to the DNC.

Errrrrggghh!

Errrrrggghh!

Their politics will be smothered in the delightfully conservative atmosphere here. I just hope, for their own sakes that they left the happy-clappy life behind when they left San Fran.

(I drove through SF a few years ago, heading for Ariz. Got lost. Wound up on Castro Street. Twisted around and came out on a street I recognized which lead to 101, and away I went.)

Yeah, walkin eagle was mentioned but then it kinda went down hill from there. all colors of the rainbow and then some.
Saw something from the from the debate tonite, brian pushing oil drilling and development. didn’t sound like the same person who spoke at the convention. oh well. I’m sure he's got higher plans than just governor of Montana.
another great conversation starter is the unopened prison that sits in the middle of Hardin.
