So now Rove is a reliable source?
Maybe AP thinks that conservatives still read their tripe.

Former Bush political adviser Karl Rove said McCain and Obama had both shaded the truth in campaign advertising.
The truth is that both McCain and Obama . . . indeed all Democrats, like to whine to Big Journalism about "negative campaigning" and such. And the reality is that journalism has never been objective, so nobody should assume that there is an umpire who can be trusted to call balls and strikes in the game of politics.
And the fact that McCain-Feingold assumes that journalism is objective is one of the reasons I wanted a better Republican candidate than McCain . . .

(The conceit of journalistic objectivity is profoundly subversive of democratic principle.)

Karl Rove is the Dems’ new best friend and talking point of the day (thanks, Karl)...this morning while discussing Barry's email ad and McCain's war injuries, the Dem pundit pointed out that even Karl Rove thought they were both going too far now.
Later in the show, they had on former POW Lt. Col Orson Swindle who discussed McCain's injuries and said--I don't want my Commander-in-Chief preoccupied with email. It's just another petty, desperate attempt by the Obama people.
