Chairman Rangel (Pelosi must act---Dems took over promising ethical housecleaning)
NY TIMES ^ | 9/15/08 | EDITORIAL

Posted on 09/15/2008 5:48:43 AM PDT by Liz

Mounting embarrassment makes it imperative that Rep Charles Rangel step aside as chair of Ways and Means. Rangel concedes that he has not lived up to the “higher standard” expected of members of Congress. His latest admission is that as chief of Congress’s tax-writing committee, he was “irresponsible” in failing to disclose $75,000 in rental income and pay federal and state taxes on a villa in the Dominican Republic.......adding momentum to two earlier controversies....favored treatment in occupying four rent-stabilized apartments in Manhattan, and improper use of official letterheads to solicit support from charities and corporations for an academic center to memorialize his career in public service. Pelosi must not cut slack for an ally. If Mr. Rangel refuses a temporary hiatus from his chairmanship, Ms. Pelosi should remove him permanently

BACKSTORY Cong Rangel’s contempt for taxpayers was evident in his (1) pricey real estate deals, (2) his assertion that he "forgot" to pay taxes, and, (3) his financial connection to several tax-exempt entities.

KEEP IN MIND the IRS reports that some tax-exempt foundations and non-profits could be major fraud machines.

Now, according to the NY Posts's top-notch investigative reporting, we know of at least three tax-exempt entities that are connected to Rangel‘s finances: (1) The Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service (Rangel co-opted $2 million via Capitol Hill allocations, plus another $700,000 from Dept of HUD), (2) The NY Carib News Foundation (organized financing for Rangel’s Caribbean trips), (3) The Ann S. Kheel Charitable Trust---aids disadvantaged neighborhoods (gave $440,000 to The Charles B. Rangel Center - the largest single donation in its 4-year history. Theordore Kheel, Esq, VP of Grupo Punta Cana Operating Company, (mortgage holder on Rangel’s villa), donated $17,000 to Rangel's congressional campaigns and $52,000 to a Rangel-run political action committee since 1990, federal filings show. (Ann Kheel is his late wife.

The IRS has determined that the biggest potential for IRS fraud are tax-exempt non-profits doing deals with other tax-exempt non-profits----all posing as do-gooder "foundations" and “charities.”

There's a zillion ways tax-exempts can defraud the IRS, the FEC, and evade SEC and US banking laws.

Taxpayers should demand an investigation. Suspected tax fraud and tax law violations can be reported to IRS TOLL-FREE 1-800-829-0433 (You may remain anonymous).

Here’s what Pelosi said on election night, Nov 6, 2006, an election night that would propel her into office as Speaker of the House:

“The American people voted to restore integrity and honesty in Washington, D.C., and the Democrats intend to lead the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history.”

She said they were going to “drain the swamp.” What a joke. GOP should make an ad featuring some of these Demo crooks. But they can’t show pictures of Rangel or Jefferson because then we’d be hearing screams of Willie Horton.

But not the Clintons, right? Please tell me that the Clintons would not be involved in such shennanigans!

Write email to Pelosi at this address: sf.nancy@mail.house.gov

Perhaps (slim chance, but still a chance) if enough of us write it will create noise which cannot be ignored.

Here, from the website of Workers World Party (workers.org), is a direct link to a set of photos showing Ramsey Clark, Lynne Stewart and current demonRAT chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Charlie Rangel, all at a Workers World Party/Troops Out Now "anti-war" rally on March 19, 2005. The occasion marked the 2nd anniversary of the start of the Iraq war:

Wasn’t Rangel one of the last Hillary holdouts? Is the NYT getting it’s revenge on behalf of Obama by actually doing it’s job?

If the NYT is calling for Rangel’s resignation, he is in deep kim chi.

Among Rangel’s evasions and discrepancies now becoming public:

_Rangel's official papers over the past 10 years show no reference to the sale of a home he once owned on Colorado Avenue in Washington.

_The details of a property bought in Sunny Isles, Fla., are misleading. The stated value changes significantly from year to year, and even page to page, from $50,000 to $100,000 all the way up to $500,000.

_Some of the entries for his investment funds fluctuate strangely, suggesting that the person either didn't have accurate information, or didn't fill out the paperwork correctly.

_ Rangel’s luxury villa in the Dominican Republic has proven a major embarrassment b/c (A) he conceded he never reported the rental income over a 20-year period, (B) received a no-interest mortgage for more than half that time, and, (C) claims to have no idea what it is worth today.

Congressman Charlie Rangel (D-NY), Chairman of the powerful Tax
Setting House Ways and Means Committee Hard At Work At His Punta
Canna Villa (that he rents out without reporting the income).

NOTE: Rangel's wife of 42 years demanded that the hot latina babe fiddling around Rangle's Torrid Zone be deleted out of the pic......or she would not go along with his desperte deal to call off the divorce (spouses cannot testify against their husbands).

Rangle complied even though the guys on Ways and Means were salivating to see Rangle getting blanked.

“The American people voted to restore integrity and honesty in Washington, D.C., and the Democrats intend to lead the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history.”

A couple of comments. First, Pelosi holds a stake in Pickens renewable energy corporation. Pelosi sets the agenda and so far has not allowed a vote in the house on off shore drilling. The higher the price of oil, the more money Pelosi can make. Is this ethical? Is this moral? Is this honest? Is this open?

Second, has anyone seen the congressional approval ratings lately?

If Pelosi refused to do anything about the Louisiana Congressman caught by the FBI with $75,00 in cash in his freezer, I doubt she will do anything about Rangel.

Chairman Rangel (Pelosi must act---Dems took over promising ethical housecleaning)

Pelosi will appoint a panel to try and figure out how Pres. Bush, John McCain and Sarah Palin all conspired to force Rangel to cheat on paying taxes.
