WHILE campaigning in public for a speedy withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Sen. Barack Obama has tried in private to persuade Iraqi leaders to delay an agreement on a draw-down of the American military presence.
According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.
"He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington," Zebari said in an interview.
Obama insisted that Congress should be involved in negotiations on the status of US troops - and that it was in the interests of both sides not to have an agreement negotiated by the Bush administration in its "state of weakness and political confusion."

Wow that’s despicable, and hardly surprising.
Heard about this on local talk radio. Drudge has it. This needs legs bump!
The One and his surrogates seem to have a habit of telling foreigners one thing and American voters another. Recall the flap over NAFTA — with the Canadians being told not to worry (”It’s just politics”) even while The One was on the stump saying he would ‘renegotiate’ NAFTA if he was elected.
September Surprise.
Despicable.
Obama is playing politics with American soldiers lives.
No problem here getting attention on this story, BUT this reeks of plausible denaibility. This foreign secretary will have to come forward and forceful in the US media before it gets traction.
BHO can easily say, “thats not what I said, he misunderstood” and the MSM will say “ok boss, talk later, headed back to Alaska”
The sad thing about it is that the story will have NO legs beyond the Fox and the right-leaning blogs. The MSM is and has been in the pocket of the Dems and, without the constant exposure, it will die on the vine. Nobody on the Republican side wants to be seen as targeting a minority candidate with a political prosecution as he might be "McCarthied". Short of eating a live kitten during the finale of American Idol, nothing BO can do will hurt him in the media.
I don’t listen to talk radio, but surely Rush and Hannity will get all over this. Whee!
Should be, yes. In reality it is only disqualifying for a Republican.
Don't say that. If the they find out that 0bama is engaging in treason, this will boost his popularity among Democrats.
Don’t be too sure. It is being carried on Huffington Post AND Spiegal. That is like a nod to the left.
Sounds like the DNC is about to turn to infighting.

HEre’s the original thread on FR about this (props to ‘enchante’)

Over at the NY Post online, this story has a lot of comments — many attacking the author. Seems the author is worthy of some scrutiny. That’s fair. We should verify the veracity of the report and the credibility of the author.
But the seriousness of the charges certainly warrants a vigorous, immediate investigation!
Sounds like it’s not Hanoi Jane any more but Baghdad Barrack.
So, we wanted to spend the Defense Department treasure and keep thousands of US troops away from home to further his political campaign.
Can you imagine the firestorm if Bush tried this?
