OK. When are the protests gonna begin by the free-thinking, not-to-be-denied-their rights college students.

A smoke-in outside of the administrations building would be too cool (or is that "Kool"?)

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see it.

Didn’t they get the memo from the Political Correctness society? Smoking is E-V-I-L. So of course it’s got to be banned.

It might be evil but the act is it’s not illegal

How about some good ol’ civil disobedience?

To quote Frederick Douglas: “Agitate, agitate, agitate!”

“SMOKE-IN! SMOKE-IN! SMOKE-IN!

The GOP, long-term, needs to find a way to capture people’s disgust with the health Nazis.

I hope that they are also willing to forego any revenues generated from the sale of tobacco. I have to wonder how much of the MSA is allocated to pell grants, or other education earmarks.

(Shelion would have been able to tell us the amount of revenue they ear mark for education. She is truly missed.)

Big government just trying keep the Nittaly lions off the endangered species list by protecting them from themselves.

"Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

The demonizing of smoking is the model now being used to advance the global warming agenda. Harry Reid, the dope, even said inhaling carbon makes us sick. Someday carbon won’t be allowed at Pa colleges.

College students are, for the most part, sheep. If it’s politically correct claptrap, they’ll go along with it willingly. But if the State cracked down on dope smoking, there would be riots.

“College students are, for the most part, sheep.”

Too bad. Some radicals would be nice.

I don’t smoke but this is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous when you think of how large PSU’s main campus is.

First they came for the smokers...

This is not about Penn State. This is about the state-owned universities. These are the smaller schools that were originally teachers’ colleges. Like Slippery Rock and Shippensburg.

Penn State and Pitt are “state related” but not “state owned.”

Ironically, Pennsylvania State University is not one the 14 schools in Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. It's not part of this particular ban.

OK, the best that I could find is here:

http://www.budget.state.pa.us/budget/lib/budget/(2008-2009)_executive_budget_documents/2008-09_enacted_budget_graphics/08-09-budget-charts.pdf

It looks like the total state budget is $62B and between cig taxes and the MSA, tobacco accounts for $2.36B of their budget. Higher educaton is 8% of the general fund expenditures of $28.3B, so the higher education budget is $2.264B.

In other words, tobacco revenue is higher than higher education spending. I know that tobacco revenue is not 100% dedicated to higher education, but I do find the ration entertaining.
