WTF was going through this guy's head? Or is he a plant trying to start a joke meme similar to "Al Gore invented the Internet"?

They say stupid things but the whole quote is not that far-fetched.

“Telecommunications of the United States, the premiere innovation in the past 15 years, comes right through the Commerce Committee. So you’re looking at the miracle that John McCain helped create,” said Holtz-Eakin. “And that’s what he did. He both regulated and de-regulated the industry.”

Or, it's just a bad joke targeting Gore and the other liberal claims to fame.

Although, from what I've read, telecommunications is better in other places than the U.S.

It’s hardly as interesting as a pig with lipstick and it wasn’t even McCain who said it, but I have a feeling that you’re correct. The MSM will grasp on to whatever it takes to make sure that McCain loses and their anointed One wins.

Meanwhile, McCain senior aide Matt McDonald said that the senator “laughed” when he heard the comment.

“He would not claim to be the inventor of anything, much less the BlackBerry. This was obviously a boneheaded joke by a staffer,” McDonald said

My memory is Al Gore made the Internet claim himself, this is just the babbling of a lackey adviser. Big difference.

Steve-b is still pissed that McCain didn't chose Lieberman or Romney.

Don’t these “journalists” even read their own stories as they write them.

He never said McCain invented the Blackberry, or the internet, or blah blah blah. He said that McCain and his commerce committee helped to spur on communications development through their regulation and deregulations of the industry.

Now, whatever you think of the proposition that government every helps any development, at least we need to get straight what he did say.

I think the MSM has lost it's touch.  The harder they try, the further their boy Barry sinks in the polls.

Only in places more densely populated.

Time for Mr. Hyphenated-Last Name to leave the campaign really fast...

He did not say McCain invented the BlackBerry. He used the BlackBerry as an example of the revolution in communications McCain helped bring about.

Fire him immediately.

Confusing the holding of a committee hearing with a creative act is a sign of terminal inside-the-beltway-itis.

Be sure to thank Bill Clinton for that. Insisting that the next gen PCS auction involved hundreds of tiny local area pieces of bandwidth instead of a few big nationwide footprint carriers. His stated goal was to get small, minority, and female operators in the industry.
