Supreme opportunity: New England Law students get chance to study with Justice Antonin Scalia

Karalyn O’Brien of Mendon didn’t think she’d ever be able to study law with a U.S. Supreme Court justice, nor did Pamela Tankle of Dorchester. But this past summer, the two students from the New England Law Boston, formerly known as the New England School of Law, did just that.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia taught a course through the school at a satellite location in Galway, Ireland, titled Separation of Powers. The course examined some of the principle decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court dealing with that topic, including cases pertaining to appointment and removal of executive officers, delegation of legislative powers, standing doctrine, and incursion upon and expansion of the power of courts.

“It was absolutely incredible,” O’Brien said. “It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

most of those students will graduate in crushing debt and never find work as attorneys. at least they can claim this fleeting brush with greatness.
