The Spider & The Fly
The New Media Journal ^ | September 17, 2008 | Paul R. Hollrah

Although Governor Sarah Palin bears not the slightest resemblance to a deadly spider, and Senator Joseph Biden resembles a pesky fly only in that they share a certain nuisance value, the political “drama” that Biden and his Democratic allies have forced Palin into puts one in mind of the Mary Howitt poem. In other words, “they’ve got Sarah Palin right where she wants them.”

Since the moment that John McCain introduced Palin as his running mate, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and every other prominent Democrat in America have worked overtime trying to figure out how to handle this beautiful, charming, successful, and supremely competent woman.

Being Democrats, their first instinct was to smear her. So their friends in the tabloid media ran a cover story with the title, “Babies, Lies & Scandal.” They were able to point to babies, born and unborn, but when they couldn’t produce any lies or scandals and the Obama-Biden brand began to suffer in the opinion polls, they looked around for a new approach.

The media has been somewhat successful, again, at portraying Sarah as an airhead. This could be a big mistake, again. If she DOESN'T come across as an airhead in the debate, if she comes across as a knowledgable and confident person, he stock will once again sky-rocket.

The media are idiots.

As Sarah Palin is confronted with the charge that she has too little foreign policy experience to serve as vice president she might simply reply, “Yes, it is true. I do not have the advantage of Senator Biden’s long experience on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, but I fail to see what value that experience has been for Senator Biden… given his long record of wrong and misguided decisions.”

BOOM!

The best thing that Gov. Palin could do is ignore these people. Stay on her message and don’t respond to fools. Palin scares the hell out of the democrats and that’s just fine.

Sarah “The Black Widow” Palin. Painful and agonizing death to liberals.

I’m not worried about the foreign affairs aspect of the debates as John Bolton is coaching her so she won’t sound like an airhead. And you’re right, the media is gnawing off it’s own foot. They repeatedly set the standard low for Gov Palin and she’s going to break the ceiling they set.

You’re right, don’t respond to them, make them respond to you.

"...Senator Joseph Biden resembles a pesky fly only in that they share a certain nuisance value..."

Flies also have thicker hair and smaller mouth parts than Senator Biden...

And Obama has said similar things about the experience of Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld in the Bush administration. He said that in spite of their “experience” we got bogged down in Iraq, yadda, yadda, yadda. Obama said that judgement, not experience, is most important.

So it might be hard to tar Sarah with the brush of little or no foreign policy experience.

And what can Democrats say about this for other people. Their own Bill Clinton didn’t have any experience in foreign affairs before he became president. He only had domestic affairs as being governor of Arkansas. You could have argued that Arkansas was a small insignificant state, as people have been saying about Alaska.

I think the whole foreign affairs thing is a non-starter.
