AVON, N.J. (AP) With oil and gas drilling heating up as an issue in the presidential race, environmentalists and the governor reiterated their opposition to tapping reserves off the state's coast, saying it would endanger the environment and the tourism industry on which New Jersey is so dependent.

McCain is never going to win the environmentalists over and New Jersey's 15 electoral votes. So why should he care about Jon Corzine's opinion? If he really wants to win the election, do the opposite! Drill Baby, Drill!

They wished their beach was nearly as good as Florida and we want drilling.
They want more taxes and less tourist.

“endanger the environment and the tourism industry on which New Jersey is so dependent.”
Why in the world would anyone go to New Jersey? Tourism?

Apart from Atlantic City? How about the Democrats setting aside petty concerns for ocean views and helping America get the energy it needs? Its not too much to ask, Jon!

These people don't really care about anything but themselves. Deer overcrowding causes 28 million in auto damage, and countless amounts of crop and landscaping damage every year in New Jersey and in response, they tried to ban hunting to "protect" them.
They aren't just foolish, they are harmful.

This is a scam! It's BS.
"..The House late Tuesday passed legislation that would open waters 50 miles off the Pacific and Atlantic coasts to oil and natural gas development.."
Per Rush yesterday, the oil is located closer to shore so the oil companies won't drill.

There are a lot of beaches in New Jersey that are actually very nice.
Besides, they are just an hour or two drive from New York.... location counts.

I miss the smell of the pig lots in seductive Secaucus, NJ. Kept me from falling asleep at the wheel on many a late night return to NYC.

Exactly. Sail the Delaware Bay for a day and then tell me why drilling is dangerous.

Atlantic city gambling.
And if Atlantic citys beaches were spoiled with an oil spill not one gambler would cancel a trip there.
Funny to think but New Jersey does have a substantial tourism beach industry.
Still, drill baby drill.

Let’s start drilling in NJ in the heads of the dim leadership there. No oil... but lots of hot air and noxious gasses.

Maybe that drilling will help to clean up the medical waste that tends to float up on NJ beaches (thanks for your garbage, NY!).

Yeah, but if people don’t have gas to get there, the tourism industry there will die anyway.

Interesting! All I knew about New Jersey was that there was gambling and organized crime.

Funny to think but New Jersey does have a substantial tourism beach industry. Not true. Not true at all. I was planning a beach vacation in Atlantic City, but if they started drilling for oil 50 miles from shore, that would force me to cancel my vacation. After all, given a choice of cheaper gas that would make it easier to get to the beach or paying more per gallon but knowing that there were no oil platforms beyond the horizon, I'd have to go with the ecologically correct choice.
