CEDAR RAPIDS - These quotes are from some people who watched from a distance as Republican presidential nominee John McCain toured flood-damaged parts of Cedar Rapids.
"My impression is that a lot of times, people think a disaster occurs and within a short time, it's all fixed, but it's not a quick fix." said Marian Hyde of Marshalltown, who is part of a First Baptist Church group working on a house in the Time Check neighborhood at 1407 Ellis Blvd.
"The thing is that there's so many disasters, with the hurricanes, that this is old news, but it didn't go away." said Becky Sayer of Marshalltown, who is part of a First Baptist Church group working on a house in the Time Check neighborhood at 1407 Ellis Blvd.
"It will be a boost of morale. When you have a presidential candidate willing to come and take a look." Marian Hyde, of Marshalltown, who is part of a First Baptist Church group working on a house in the Time Check neighborhood at 1407 Ellis Blvd.
"I think it's good because these people are in a disaster, now they can feel like they might get a little help. A morale booster, that's what it's about," said Lori McNew of Newton, who is part of a First Baptist Church group working on a house in the Time Check neighborhood at 1407 Ellis Blvd.

Sarah Palin, second from right, tour flooded areas of Northwest Cedar Rapids after a campaign rally at the Cedar Rapids Airport on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008. Walking with McCain and Palin are, from left, Cedar Rapids council member Brian Fagan, John Smith, owner of CRST trucking and member of Economic Planning and Redevelopment Corporation, and State Rep. This cannot be, there was a big article in my daily paper, the Quad City Times, really ragging on Sen. McCain for not bothering with the people who have been flooded. Of course it was an ap piece out of des moines, but they sure featured our big fat gov. telling everyone how the Republicans don’t care about people. The piece ended with fatso wanting to know when Fema will send more money. By the way this paper years ago was named just Democrat, it still is.
And Obama has been doing what, exactly, for all the flood victims?
a friend of mine saw this premise on the local news tonight too - that they didn’t tour - but they did.
my friend called in and they said it would be corrected in the 10pm version - what ever.
McCain was one of the first to visit in June - Pelosi showed up 2 weeks ago and was “stunned” to see the destruction.
