Nor should he. It’s turned from a simple inquiry into a partisan circus. There’s nothing to this whole “issue,” anyway. My position is Gov Palin SHOULD have pressed for Wooten’s (the trooper) firing, since she had first-hand knowledge of his misdeeds (tasering her nephew, drinking while driving a squad car, threatening members of her family, etc). She would be remiss in NOT taking action to having this thug removed from the force. And, BTW, as for Walt Monegan, she is constitutionally empowered to fire him or any other cabinet member at any time.

ok, I’ll say it. This is very disappointing to me. This whole thing should be NOTHING, and by stalling they’re not only drawing more attention to it, but making it more than it is. They’re allowing this to turn into a witch hunt.

This started out as a “we have nothing to hide” and has turned into a lot of subterfuge and non-denial denials. By not responding to subpoenas they’re acting like Dick Cheney and that they’re above the law. It’s making them look really bad, and that they have something to hide - whether they do or not.

They should all cooperate, as transparently as possible, get it over with, show the world how right they all were, and move on! That would give the MSM one less thing to hammer them with because there would be no story at that point. The longer they drag this on, the worse they look, and we can’t afford that right now.

This should be done quickly and as transparently as possible so everyone will shut the hell up about it. They have the opportunity to show what heros they are by doing the right thing. I don’t get why they’re not taking it. They need to control the story, but their letting the story control them.

If this is McCain or his campaign’s doing, I think it’s a huge mistake.

My understanding is that the appropriate way to respond to a supoena is to first ensure that it is properly drafted and targeted. Todd Palin’s lawyer’s letter is just that. There is no issue in TP’s response. There is an issue in the timing of the probe and the trial by media approach.

See http://media.adn.com/smedia/2008/09/18/16/ltr_Branchflower_objections_subpoena_9-18-08.source.prod_affiliate.7.pdf for the letter.
