Editorial: DREAM Act more urgent than ever

Like nine other states, California allows students who attend high school in the state for three years and graduate to pay in-state tuition at public universities.

Yet a group of out-of-state parents doesn't like the law. The gripe? AB 540 allows kids whose parents entered the state illegally to pay in-state tuition. So they filed a lawsuit in Yolo Superior Court.

Lawmakers passed AB 540 because they want kids who were brought to California through no decision of their own and who have little or no connection with their parents' country to be educated, productive members of society.

The Superior Court upheld the state law. But the California Court of Appeal, 3rd District, overturned it on Monday.

At issue is a September 1996 federal law that says students "not lawfully present in the United States" shall not be eligible, "based on residency," for any postsecondary education benefit unless U.S. citizens also are eligible for the benefit.

If someone from Nevada wants her kid to go to Fresno State then that kid pays out of state tuition.

How hard it this for people to understand?

Seems pretty explicit to me. People need to sue the rest of these states that allow in-state tuition for illegals.

Federal law is clear - if you grant a benefit to an illegal, it must be offered under the same terms and conditions to American citizens or nationals. The Sacramento Bee via the so called DREAM Act, wants to turn Americans into second class citizens in their own country and give people here in violation of our laws, or rather the kids, a first place in line for an American education our own kids won't be able to get. THAT'S WRONG! And our bipartisan Open Borders elite doesn't get it!!!

Kris Kobach is doing great work with litigation to bring down state DREAM Acts that discriminate against Americans.

This is just code for AMNESTY.

The dream act turns ALL STUDENTS BECOME ANCHOR BABIES REGARDLESS OF CITIZENSHIP.

Remember 1996 clinton signed the law eliminating the achor babies (NOT BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP THAT IS A DIFFERENT LEGAL ITEM).

this is an effort to provide a back door to AMNESTY.

ALL those students 100% can come back on a student “J” visa.
LEGALLY.

This dream act is 100% AMNESTY BS.

why are the pro- illegal alien forces not RAISING MONEY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS?

Why are they not PAY FOR THE STUDENT EDUCATIONS?

Why have the other established groups creating and funding scholarships? The Polish, Italian, Greek ethnic groups have all created scholarship funds for their own over the CENTURIES.

this is not about education for illegals

"why are the pro- illegal alien forces not RAISING MONEY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS?"

You should look into all the scholarships that are available to immigrants, illegal and otherwise. If you are a minority immigrant and graduate high school with good grades, then you have all kind of scholarships opportunities. Most of them just don't realize they are out their.

the students know they are out there.

this is for turning all student in anchors for illegal alien families.

all these students here on a ‘j’ visa would not be able to serially immiragte all the relatives.
