It is terrible to lose family members to a traffic accident. But why on earth would a United States Senator fabricate an embellishment and claim that it was a drunk driver's fault, when the record clearly indicates it was not?

Since his vice presidential nomination, Joe Biden's 2007 statement that a "guy who allegedly ... drank his lunch" and drove the truck that struck and killed his first wife and daughter has gained national media traction.
Alcohol didn't play a role in the 1972 crash, investigators found. But as recently as last week, the syndicated TV show Inside Edition aired a clip from 2001 of Biden describing the accident to an audience at the University of Delaware and saying the truck driver "stopped to drink instead of drive."
The senator's statements don't jibe with news and law enforcement reports from the time, which cleared driver Curtis C. Dunn, who died in 1999, of wrongdoing.
"To see it coming from [Biden's] mouth, I just burst into tears," Dunn's daughter, Glasgow resident Pamela Hamill, 44, said Wednesday. "My dad was always there for us. Now we feel like we should be there for him because he's not here to defend himself."

Biden has embellished his supposed "working class" origins in Scranton, PA, when in fact his father was successful sales professional for substantial companies, and he attended a very expensive private school.
Is this an attempt to exploit the death of his first wife for political gain? The thought is sickening. Even if Biden was inititially misinformed, he and his campaign have allowed a lie to propagate throughout the media. The news report above mentions:
"...since Barack Obama tapped Biden to be his running mate on Aug. 23, The New York Times, National Public Radio and The Economist have run stories that characterized Dunn as a drunken driver."
Because he can get away with it.

The apparent cause of the crash is Biden’s wife, Neilia, turned her head and didn’t see the oncoming truck as she exited the intersection of Limestone and Valley roads on Dec. 18, 1972.
She not only killed herself, but the other driver.

Biden is a great example of why people who complain about divisiveness in government should shut up. People obviously want divided government since Biden won in 1972 when Nixon was carrying DE by a large margin. Same thing in ‘84 when President Reagan won the state easily but Biden was elected for the third time. I wonder how many people who split their ticket both times are the first to ask “why can’t the 2 parties get along??” It’s their own fault.
Biden has lied for so long about his life that he can no longer distinguish fantasy from reality. That’s at least a charitable explanation of his conduct.

It's been "let go" for 35 years. Nobody has paid attention to it because a couple of people died and golly gee, we may offend someone.
The problem is not the death of Biden's wife and daughter, it's the fact that he has ruined a man's life and victimized his family by lying about the circumstances about their death. Who has stood up for that poor man's family? Nobody! This poor man's daughter was finally going to clear the air by meeting with a tv crew to tell their side of the story and call Biden out on his "purposeful misstatements".
At the last minute she backed out. Do you know why? Because she was afraid of reprisals from either Biden or Biden supporters. What the hell kind of people does that show us to be when we allow a politician to run around and intimidate people just because of who he is?
From what I’ve read, it sounds like Mrs. Biden pulled out from a stop sign while a tractor trailer was coming down a hill and was unable to stop in time. It’s a tragic accident, for sure. But I don’t get it: if she had a stop sign, then wouldn’t she be the one at fault? Seems to me the truck coming down the hill has right of way, unless he too had a stop sign. I don’t see anything to suggest the guy ran a light or a sign. Looks like Mrs. Biden pulled out in front of him. It’s a tragic accident, but I cannot see what Joe Biden wants to defame a man who does not seem to have been at fault. How painful for his children to see their father held up after his death as an “alleged” drunk driver.

The truck driver died in 1999....years after the wreck, and he had a hard time getting a job because of Biden’t telling the LIE that he DRANK and KILLED Mrs. Biden.
Well...now we know why Biden has decided to lie about it! Has he always told this lie...or did it start after the man died in 1999?

The other driver died in 1999. Biden didn’t start telling the “drunk story” until after he was dead and couldn’t sue.
