Democrats' Silencing Is Deafening
Friday, September 19, 2008

By John Gibson

It looks to me like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — the twin $1 trillion disasters — were the creation of congressional Democrats and a Democrat White House.

So where are the Democrats? Why no news conferences explaining themselves?

Barney Frank — who who insisted Fannie and Freddie had to buy loans made to the unqualified — has had nothing substantial to say, though he did wisecrack yesterday in a Hi-Ho Silver voice: The "loan arranger" is on the way. He was referring to the administration riding in to save him.

Nancy Pelosi denied years of Democrat-sponsored easing of lending standards at Fannie and Freddie and simply said, no, not our fault.

Harry Reid over in the Senate promised Democrat action and immediately adjourned Congress to get out of town right away.

Bob Rubin, the Clinton economic genius who oversaw the launch of Fannie and Freddie drunken sailor's decade, stood with Obama today. Hhe's the one who went from the White House to Citibank where he lost a billion dollars.

John McCain is now running an ad pointing to Obama's link to Franklin Raines, the Clinton official who ran Fannie Mae and took a payday north of $50 million. Raines was reported by The Washington Post to be an Obama adviser on housing issues. But as soon as McCain's ad appeared, Obama rushed to deny Raines was any sort of adviser.

McCain has a golden opportunity to explain the Dims’ complicity in this debacle and thus attack Obambi, but I have my doubts he will do it to any significant extent.

McCain lost the ability to realize that the RATS are not friends. He has to make a choice, friends or deadly enemy. And he has to make decisions fast!!!!! Sometimes I wonder if he is capable to answer that 3PM phone call with any authority.

“The “refi boom” had played out by the end of 2001, so to keep the $$$ flowing they had to lower the lending standards.”

The lower lending standards were probably part of the post 9/11 economic incentives. So were Bushes tax cuts and the Dem’s gov’t spending. All the gov’t meddling to help the economy.

Sadly, people who could afford to buy their houses have suffered equally. I was one of the lucky ones, who, after almost 30 years of ownership was able, barely, to sell my home before the market came apart.

I could be looking for a tall building now but for a stroke of luck.

for Obama, he's No. 2 on the Fannie-Freddie political contribution list

I keep hearing the same phrasing when it comes to Obama being number 2 on the Fannie-Freedie contributions list.

But, wouldn't it be a lot more correct and effective to state the same thing in a much more powerful way? Isn't Obama the NUMBER ONE when it comes to contributions to congresspeople/senators?

Obama is the NUMBER ONE recipient in Congress of Freeddie and Fannie contributions. It should be stated that way.

I have been reading the foreclosure listings in our local paper, mostly out of curiosity, but also out of investment opportunities. One thing that stands out is in 90% of these foreclosure listings, only ONE person is listed as owning the home. “A single woman, a single man, a married man as his own property...” Not to mention, yes, most of these names are typically not a white person.
I don’t know about you, but here in Caleeefornia, it used to take TWO working members of a family to purchase a home, let alone qualify for a loan. So someone has been handing out these loans to those who have no one to fall back on if their precarious financial situation changes.

No because Senator Chris Dodd is the #1 so Obama is #2.

The republicans need to hang this around the democrats neck. Why are they not doing that? The republicans are going to have to get tough and start attacking democrats on this economy and all the problems or they are going to lose.

number 2 on the Fannie-Freedie contributions list.

Wouldn't that be just perfect? The campaign is obviously directly quoting a list that they did not generate. That means it will take the Obama camp a little more effort to spin their way out of this one.

Seems like McCain is doing a pretty good job of making the case against the Dims.

The Democrats did it, but the Republicans didn’t do much to stop it.

That's the perfect angle of attack for McCain/Palin. It's straight talk, it's mavericky, it's insubordinate, and most important... it's TRUE!

The Democrats in Washington made this mess, and the Republicans in Washington didn’t do much to stop them. But you can do something about it now. Vote for McCain/Palin on November 4, and vote the Washington establishment out of office while you're at it.

I'm John McCain, and I should approve this message.
