The troubled mortgage finance giant announces restructuring of organization with more direct reports to CEO.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Mortgage finance giant Fannie Mae, taken over by the government earlier this month, announced Friday the resignations of four senior executives and said it was restructuring its organization.
The company, the biggest buyer and guarantor of home loans in the country, and its sibling Freddie Mac (FRE, Fortune 500) were taken over on Sept. 7 in a rescue plan that eventually could require the Treasury Department to put up as much as $100 billion for each of them over time if needed to keep them afloat as mortgage losses mount.

She was in Army Intelligence.
Dirty little secret is how many members of the press and their families are engaged in corruption.
Resignation is not enough, PROSECUTION might help but only upon conviction and SENTENCING.
Where are the prosecutors? Somebody needs to go to jail! Hello? Hello? (Damn crikets).
Resign. They haven’t already been fired?!

Beth A. Wilkinson is Fannie Mae's executive vice president - general counsel and corporate secretary. She reports directly to the chief executive officer. Wilkinson has oversight and management responsibility for all legal issues, strategies, services and resources. Additionally, she serves as the business-oriented, senior legal advisor to the board of directors, chief executive officer, and members of the senior management team.
Prior to joining Fannie Mae, Wilkinson was a partner and co-chair, White Collar Practice Group for Latham & Watkins, LLP, Washington, D.C. Before joining Latham, Wilkinson served as special counsel to the deputy U.S. attorney general. During her tenure at the Department of Justice, Wilkinson was appointed principal deputy of the Terrorism & Violent Crime Section and a prosecutor on the trial team in U.S. v. McVeigh and Nichols.
Wilkinson served in the United States Army as an assistant to the general counsel of the Army for Intelligence & Special Operations. While in that position she was selected to serve as Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Florida to assist in the U.S. v. Noriega case. Wilkinson joined the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. Wilkinson twice received the Attorney General's Exceptional Service Award, the only two time recipient in the history of the Department of Justice.
Wilkinson has a juris doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law and a bachelor of arts from Princeton University.
I agree 100% with Mark Levin there should be some high profile congressional Democrats and others associated with this mess put on the witness stand, clad in orange jumpsuits.
...If he hasn't already, I'm sure the Great One will have plenty of fun with this tidbit.
These people and *many* others need to resign now, and they also need to have every aspect of their financial lives investigated.
One was married to David Gregory? That is rich! Now let’s see if anyone has the .... to call for Barny Frank’s stepping down from his finance committee chair. He’s been a disgrace and a major player in FNMA’s exploitation and downfall.
Resigned????
I want to see a perp walk!
Good point. I say bring on mass independent investigations, and investigate not only the crooks running these financial institutions, but everyone in D.C. that was in charge of regulating and overseeing these institutions.
From the top down!
She had absolutely NO financial background, but apparently did have enough arrogance to think she could handle a ranking position at FNMA. That’s a Dem for you.
I wonder what would happen to those responsible if this happened in China?

McCain said he would name names and this is why the MSM is so against him. Now might be a good time to get the connection out in the public view!
No, not Army Intelligence, but JAG Corps (lawyer).
I despise David Gregory - I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more smug SOB on TV, and that’s saying something.
(Well, maybe O’Reilly: “But enough about me - what did you think of my interview with _____?”)
She apparently is an expert in advising “clients on internal investigations.” No wonder they got away with raking out FNMA for so long. She no doubt advised Frank to block any investigations called for by the White House and the Senate via Bush and McCain. This is only going to get bigger.
McCain said he would name namesI like what he says. "We will name names and make them famous"!
This is a good start. But much more needs to be done.
To be fair, she was General Counsel and may have been qualified for the job. Or as qualified as the rest. If you took all the political hacks out of D.C. it would be a ghost town.
Thanks. Hard for me to tell from the description.
David Gregory is married... to a Woman?
It is indeed a strange world.
Louie Freeh of FBI fame .
Thanks for the lists.
“Louie Freeh of FBI fame . “
Will they ever learn to stop recycling the losers!
I mentioned the same to my son tis morning. The bailouts are one thing. I don't like them, but my voice means next to nothing, and the very real threat of a total banking meltdown leads me to just 'shut up and take it.'
That said, I want to see some perps walk! I want to see somebody sent away for something! All this crap will go down a lot better if I have the satisfaction of seeing somebody swing for this mess.
A Juris Doctor in her position certainly needed a financial degree also, and she had none. It’s pretty obvious no whistle blower existed as the ship was going down for years. The lending schemes sanctioned by the politicians and justified by this management were ridiculously irresponsible, and the taxpayers should sue all of these officers for mismanagement. Seeing as she was adept at advising clients on how to deal with internal investigations, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn she played a role in blocking a few external ones as well.
Why would they want to do that? And who are the losers to stop recycling other losers?
I guess she decided that she’d ridden the horse as far as it would go.
I doubt that any of them left willingly. Too good a gig.
sounds like she was a JAG civilian
However does she have time for such a heavy workload at FNMA with three children under 8 (sarc)
Daniel Mudd, the head MFWIC, is son of Roger Mudd
Where is Andrew Cuomo on this??? He hounded the former CEO of AIG, Greenberg, who finally stepped down and had NOTHING prosecuted against him. But these folks?? Jim Johnson, Franklin Raines and now this woman? Democrats all, they think the Federal Government is their personal piggy bank. We all know if they were Republicans they would be hanged in the middle of Wall Street.
Yup! Just another case of double standards. DemocRATS aren’t treated the way Republicans are. When DemocRATS swindle and steal money, the “media” explains it away as being just another case of honest, “messy” and “sloppy” accounting. I’m getting pretty tired of it.
Well resignations are fine but we need Prosecutions and a change in policy where these COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS cant extort these Banks by collecting huge fees so they are not labeled as Racists . This PC crap has to be exposed now! Everyone wants to Know what COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS DO ! WELL here it is folks ,They Have Been extorting money from banks and therefore pressuring them to make these bad loans . They were expressley given this invitation By the Clinton Administration to go into these Banks and Request records on how many loans they were making to Minorities and if there were not enough they would be labeled as Racists ,wow easy money no wonder Obama was working for ACORN EASY MONEY.
Where have I heard the name Moffett and Allison. They were friends of someone.
Note to financial institutions.....if someone had the bad sense to marry David freakin’ Gregory then they are probably not best-suited to work for your company.
I think all pensions especially of Congress people should be forfieted in light of this failing. They think they have that cushy little pillow to fall back on. I don’t think so. They cheated for it and it should not be paid to them. In fact all of these people whether politician or not should be made to pay down our debt. My goodness; they have stolen enough money too.
Wonder what kind of “golden parachute” they get for resigning.
I'm guessing they will be living better than I do.
Would this be the unfailing obje-e-e-ective David Gregory? The smarmy, ankle-biting, yapping, pee-on-the-carpet David Gregory. The "journalist???" Certainly there would be no conflict of interest in his ray-poor-tage, though, now would there be?
Oh, how I wish there was an effective way of conveying sarcasm and disgust through the written word.
Resigning? And how much of the taxpayers money are they taking with them? Certainly not as much as Jamie Goerlick.(sp)?
You did good.
I just got through watching a Fox News Watch episode where Pinkerton excoriated the press for not seeing and reporting on ths scandal...and now this. How could the media be any more in bed with the story???- maybe they want us to belive that they are like Matalin and Carville and they never bring their work home. And Freeh? Seriously? What was Fannie May- and landing strip for incompetence?
