I never could understand North Dakota being part of any Battleground strategy by the Dems. But then the Obama campaign opened two offices in Oklahoma where he is behind by 41 points so what do I know? :)

Barack Obama of Illinois has shrunk its original 18 battleground states strategy to 16 today with word that it is pulling staff from the 11 campaign offices in North Dakota and sending them to other states.

Who's going to be left to pick up in a bar at 2:00AM?

I suspect they have diminishing hopes for Georgia as well.

I don’t see how they ever thought they could win in either North Dakota or South Dakota. Obama just doesn’t fit with those demographics.

My home state of North Dakota is rather interesting in a political sense. It usually votes overwhelming Republican
but from time to time for various reasons Democrats do get elected and once elected they devote considerable time and effort to constituent services. Some years ago I attend the commissioning ceremony of the son of a friend who had graduated from West Point. Then Congressman Byron Dorgan was there-his speech would have made most FREEPERS proud. He votes differently from his speeches back home.

Also, ND is a caucus state and Obama has done well in that environment. And finally, the leadership of the ND Democratic Party are experienced at all levels of politically organizing and know how to win elections and GOTV.But I don't think Obama ever had a chance. I don't know the numbers now; but on at least one of the colleges, the college Republicans out numbered the college Democrats

They've effectively pulled out of Georgia as well.

There is going to be a LOT of second-guessing his strategy if he loses the election narrowly.

I’m really astonished that these guys were ever dumb enough to try for a 50 states (57?) strategy or anything close to it. If I were working for the Dem candidate this time out I’d completely ignore all the “it’s the Dems’ year” blather and focus on a list of 10-12 battleground states where Bush or Kerry won by a slight percentage in 2004. Keep the blues, take away a couple of the reds and the White House goes Dem. Instead, in their vast arrogance, these guys think they can take away Alaska (a forlorn hope long before the Palin pick) and North Dakota (”What? Are you high?”).

It reminds me of the 2006 fight over the traditional marriage amendment to the Wisconsin constitution. The head of the pro-gay marriage effort said “If I can get every voter to think for 15 seconds, I can win this election hands down. I’m not glib about that. Getting voters to think for 15 seconds is really hard because they have lives, families, football.” Something tells me Obama’s advisers thought he could hopenitize voters in almost any locale and win 500 electoral votes.

I fail to see why Indiana is a battleground state. He’s most likely wasting his money which is a good thing. Liberal money is best when wasted as it is stolen money.
