I think a good quick answer would be that her religion is a private matter between her and her God and it’s really nobody else’s business.

To refuse to talk about your faith at all is anathema to an evangelical Christian. It is not acceptable to act ashamed of Christ, which is exactly what the “it’s none of your business” answer implies.
I personally believe that only a splinter group of voters are concerned about the notion of a strong Christian leader. Most of those who aren’t Christian themselves, have the common sense to know that Christianity is not something to hold against a leader. And those who are concerned, were never in a hundred years going to vote McCain-Palin under any circumstance.
