You really can't experience the full effect of Monday's news conference featuring Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton unless you hear it for yourself. Stapleton passionately attacked former Commissioner of Public Safety Walt Monegan. Her rhetoric was plain, desperate, and obvious. Her tone, pure shrill.
With intensity, urgency, and alarm in her voice, Stapleton described Monegan's behavior as commissioner as egregious insubordination, full of obstructionist conduct and a brazen refusal to follow instructions.
Did Walt Monegan, former Marine, and lifetime crime fighter deserve this? Of course not.
But history has proven, get in the way of Sarah Barracuda's political ambition, and you won't know what hit you.
If anyone should be on the hot seat, it's not Monegan, but Palin for her inconsistencies.
The governor has given so many different reasons for firing Monegan I've lost count. From the "we need new direction" and "new energy" to "he wasn't hiring enough cops," to "he wasn't doing enough about alcohol in the bush" to "he lobbied for budget increases" to the latest version, which is a doozy; Monegan displayed "egregious rogue behavior."
The governor also originally said that neither she, Todd nor anyone from her administration pressured Monegan regarding Trooper Wooten. Palin then was forced to admit there was serial contact once the Frank Bailey tape surfaced. But she insisted she was just learning of it. But e-mails have surfaced detailing Palin complaining to Monegan about Wooten.
The governor also originally said an investigation was needed and promised to cooperate. Then she instructed her employees not to talk to the investigator and has herself refused to be interviewed.
Palin can't constantly change her story and expect us to believe her each time she does...

But after she became governor, Fagan turned on Palin when she reached across the aisle to work with Democrats in order to get the AGIA Natural Gas Pipeline through the Alaska legislature.
A little perspective here. Fagan was a Murkowski backer who was angered when Palin rolled back Murkowski's crooked deal with the oil companies. Fagan was outraged over Palin pushing through the 2.5% production tax hike on the oil industry. He claims that it will hinder oil exploration in Alaska, even though when Palin increased the production tax by 2.5%, she also raised the tax credit the oil companies get for exploration from 20% to 30%.
But this doesn't matter to Fagan, who calls Palin a RINO and viciously slams her for "abandoning her conservative principles." Fagan doesn't say much about what has happened to his own principles, as his has been reduced to little more than a Murkowski hack who is deep inside the vest pockets of ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips and BP. By the way, none of these "big three" have pulled out of Alaska, and they continue to explore for nore oil and make good profits.
As a result of Palin standing up to big oil, Dan Fagan's show is now little more than anti-Sarah diatribe from 2PM to 5PM every day. Also, as the token conservative columnist for the liberal Anchorage Daily News, Fagan has a second outlet which he uses to attack Palin on a regular basis.
He has seized upon Troopergate, much to the delight of Democrats and those Republicans in the good old boy network who Palin stood up to and beat. They want payback, and Fagan dishes it out to them on a daily basis on the air and in print.
So whenever you see an article by Dan Fagan slamming Sarah Palin, please take it with this grain of salt.
Are you saying Dan Fagan has profited from the oil companies for taking this stand?
Sexist and bigoted comment.
Two demerits and a 5 minute timeout.
My fellow conservatives, remember how frustrating it was when Bill Clinton committed perjury and liberals looked the other way.As conservatives, we are no better unless we demand full disclosure from our governor when it comes to Troopergate.
No, I’m not claiming that Fagan is on the take from Big Oil. What I’m saying is that in his eyes, the oil companies can do no wrong.
He’s a knee-jerk conservative for whom everything is black or white. He believes that big oil is always good and that it is always right. So any criticism of big oil, even when it cuts secret deals with corrupt Alaskan pols, isn’t tolerated by Fagan.
More pragmatic Alaskan conservatives see big oil without the filter of rose-colored glasses. It’s obviously very good for Alaska, but when you sit down to negotiate with the Big Three, you don’t give away the store. Bacause like any other party which operates in its own self-interest, it will take everything that it can.
Palin has to act in the interest of Alaska’s taxpayers. That means she has to cut the best deal for them that she can when she sits down at the table with the oil companies. They were used to dealing with Murkowski, who was on the take from them, and Palin didn’t play that game.
Fagan is a Murkowski supporter. Unless I see evidence to the contrary, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he is politically motivated to favor big oil and not financially so.
Did Walt Monegan, former Marine, and lifetime crime fighter state employee sucking off the public teat, deserve this? Of course not.
