ANKARA (AFP) - Police detained 40 protesters Tuesday in a demonstration against government plans to build Turkey's first nuclear power plant, a day before the tender process was to open, activists said.
Several dozen members of environmental groups, among them Greenpeace, demonstrated outside the energy ministry in central Ankara, brandishing banners that read "No to nuclear."
Some of the protesters, dressed in black overalls and their faces painted white, lay on the ground posing as corpses.
Police officers detained about 40 people on the grounds that the demonstration was unauthorized, Greenpeace said.
Overriding strong opposition from environmentalists, the energy ministry has invited bids for the construction and operation of a 4,000-megawatt plant, to be built at Akkuyu, on Turkey's southern Mediterranean coast.

Looks like the protesters in the picture would be too young to remember that “Midnight Run” movie (I think that was the name of it).
Yup, they are probably of the opinion that Turkey will treat them like a Western country would. They probably wont be able to make it to late afternoon latte’s with their friends after this arrest.
If only we could convert the stupity of environmentalists into pure energy, we’d be able to power the world forever. Of course, the extraction of said fuel would make it decidely unclean energy, however.
They will get a wake-up call in a Turkish prison. We should send all of the enviro nut jobs over there!
Can somebody tell these people the 60’s are over? Also, if they must have signs, either pick English for the international TV exposure, or Turkish for the people you claim to be addressing. Scandinavian languages are OUT.
