NRA Targets Obama-Biden in Ongoing Ad Buy (playing in CO, NM, and PA )

The National Rifle Association is likely to spend "in the eight figure range" on radio and television advertisements in the next 42 days as part of its efforts to deter undecided voters from voting for Barack Obama, according to an NRA spokesman. The group will air a series of ads starring group members that openly question Obama's commitment to protecting gun rights. Ads will air on radio stations and during local cable television ad breaks in Colorado and New Mexico through Oct. 5 and in Pennsylvania through Sept. 28, with plans to expand to other battleground states in the coming weeks.

One ad stars former Marine and Iraq war veteran Kurt Rusch. "Like all the guys I fought with in Iraq, I was honored to defend my country and our freedom. But when I got back stateside, I learned that Barack Obama opposes my right to own a handgun for self-defense. It's ridiculous," Rusch says in the spot, adding later in it: "There's no way I'm voting for a president" who would take away "the freedoms that I fought for, that my friends died to defend."

Another ad, called "Hunter", stars Kurt's father, Karl Rusch. "I gotta tell you, with the high cost of gas and just about everything else, we're all feeling pinched," Rusch says. "And now I learn that Barack Obama supports a huge new tax on my guns and ammo."

"Where is this guy from?" Rusch later asks. "He's probably never been hunting a day in his life." He concludes: "You don't have to be bitter to know Barack Obama isn't the kind of change we need."

Re: Your “Come and Get Them” graphic...

I wonder how Jews would feel regarding the uprising at Treblinka, or the Warsaw Ghetto uprising... Two of the all to few attempts of Jews during WWII to defend themselves...

Neither ended well for the Jews, but dammit, they didn’t die like lambs to the slaughter. And both put the hurt on the German war effort. If I am ever put in a position of certain death quietly, or certain death, but taking a bunch of the bastards with me, I hope that I will do their memory justice.

The only problem I have with this ad is it points at white men. The polls are pretty clear that white men who would notice such an ad are already in McCain’s column.

Perhaps women shooters should have been in the ad, talking to other women shooters and extrapolating it to home defense of family. There are votes to be found in that category.

No they're not. This ad is aimed at union members in places like Pennsylvania and Ohio, the majority of whom normally vote Democrat.

Or,how about some with african americans talking about how it was racists who originally enacted gun control laws to preclude them from protecting their families and themselves.

This is why we couldn't afford a candidate like Giuliani or Romney. Do you think the NRA would be spending "eight figures" to support them?

Uh, no.

McCain isn't the best, but he's head and shoulders above Obama on 2A.

The NRA called our household (in PA)yesterday to make sure we were registered to vote. The week before the RNC had sent out absentee ballot requests to us.

Megyn Kelly had Burton from the Obama campaign on this morning to refute this ad, if he could. He completely denied that Obama had ever come out against handgun possession, and started trying to attack Fox for playing the ad.

Megyn SHREDDED him, I mean absolutely dismantled him. Of course, she had the facts right in front of her, and she didn’t take any sheist from him about it.
