I was born and raised in Miami. Left in ‘84.
Moved to Raleigh, my BP dropped 10 points .

When a car backfires I don’t go prone anymore. :)

I miss sailing in the Keys and nothing else.

Friend from Miami who went to college at Loyola in Chicago said that Chicago was much better because

1) you could go outside and not get pulverized by the weather

2) Chicago has a real downtown.

3) You don't have to drive everywhere, so you could do the bars and take the El home.

I was there from 1999-2002 (Doral, west of the airport). On balance, I enjoyed myself as I was in my early-mid twenties and single (LOTS of beautiful Latin beauties down there). Couldn't stand the South Beach poseurs, and the hot women were in the Gables anyway.

By the time I was there, things had calmed down ALOT since 1984. The Marielitos have been locked up or dead for years, and criminal activity is largely concentrated in the northern/northwestern portions of MD County where you have no business being anyway.
