Someone really should post Bret Baer’s piece on Fox this morning outlining the history of this financial debacle. It showed video clips from 2001, in which Bush’s treasury officials warned that Fannie and Freddie were going to cause future trouble. Alan Greenspan in 2003 was alarmed that Fannie and Freddie were involved with irresponsible lending. In 2005, John McCain and other Republicans were trying to reform Fannie and Freddie, and none other that Bawney Fwank, the Spittin’ Sissy, himself is shown blustering that they were in great shape and the government certainly would never have to bail them out. The reform was blocked by Dems who were on the take from the lobbyists of those two crooked institutions.
That segment by Bret Baer should be played on Brit’s show tonight and on O’Reilly’s and on Hannity and Colmes. It tells you who is lying through their teeth now, just as they were lying then.

I have a theory. I think that Bill and Hillary Clinton want Obama to lose the election. That way, they believe, McCain will be stuck cleaning up the mess and become as unpopular as Bush, paving the way for Hillary Clinton’s election as President in 2012.

Maybe Bill had a “conversion” experience. I know a lot of people have been praying for him.

The Dem Party is fixing to have their own civil war (but I don’t think it will be “civil.”)

Of course Clinton was instrumental in creating the current irresponsible, stupid, selfish shameless ‘in your face’ attitude that the current crop of extreme Left Congressioncritters have. They are BJ’s moral bastard children.

The problem is not Fannie and Freddie. They are only the result of the problem.

The real problem is the Community Reinvestment Act which mandates loans to poor borrowers and does have teeth to it to force lenders to issue these loans. A lot of illegal aliens also qualified for these loans.

It was all about social engineering in the first place, something Reagan warned us about.

He is a voice that substantiates the Democrat's contribution to the Fannie and Freddie debacle though and one that can't be ignored thus it is a net positive for McCain. Especially as Clinton said what he said in a thoughtful, presidential fashion.

If nothing else Clinton is a reminder of bipartisanship and not petty and partisan as Obambi has been acting all along (He even looked strained on September 11th on their joint visit to ground zero.). This has to show through if in no other way than in strong contrast. Obambi=partisan, petty, self focus, teenager, pouty kid. McCain=bipartisan, country first, right now and right then, leader

Slick Willie knows exactly what he is doing;
1. CYA - his hands were in this
2. Derail Obama
3. Trying to expand HC’s base when she runs in 2012
4. Stick in the eye of the press and leftist who hammered his wife during the primary

So dang right. It is worth repeating. Thanks for the post. We all need to be reminded on what started this whole thing to begin with. This is the core of the problem.

Hell has frozen over..

Nope. Clinton is being true to form here by throwing others under the bus to protect his own doughy @ss.

The money quote: "Democrats for years have been 'resisting any efforts by Republicans in the Congress or by me when I was President to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.'"

I seriously doubt that Clinton tried very hard to do that; but it is unquestionably true that the Republicans have a significant track record of attempting to deal with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. And the Democrats are very embarrassingly on record as having blocked those attempts.

Clinton knows that this is a real crisis. And he knows that most folks won't go back to check on whether or not he really urged action. He knows that, just by making the claim, he can ride the coat-tails of the Republicans to be on the right side of this issue.

Never forget: for Bill, it's all about Bill.

“Glass-Steagall” had nothing to do with sub prime mortgages.

Wasn’t it Bill Clinton who signed into law the act, passed by a Republican-controlled congress, that finally killed Glass-Steagall?

IIRC, it was passed by a veto-proof margin.
