McCain Speaks at Clinton Initiative

NEW YORK -- The morning after he declared he would suspend his presidential campaigning and return to Washington to deal with the U.S. economic crisis, Sen. John McCain made one last campaign stop, speaking at a conference on global issues organized by former president Bill Clinton.

Addressing his dramatic call for a pause in the intense presidential campaign, McCain said he intends to "join" the debate in Washington over how to address the meltdown in the country's financial institutions.

"I cannot carry on a campaign as though this dangerous situation had not occurred, or as though a solution were at hand, which it clearly is not," McCain said. "With so much on the line, for America and the world, the debate that matters most right now is taking place in the United States Capitol -- and I intend to join it. Senator Obama is doing the same. America should be proud of the bipartisanship we are seeing."

His comments came even as there were indications that lawmakers may already be closer to a deal on legislation to address the crisis. But McCain offered a pessimistic assessment of immediate success.

"It has become clear that no consensus has developed to support the Administration's proposal to meet the crisis," he said. "I do not believe that the plan on the table will pass as it currently stands, and we are running out of time."

Following McCain's visit to the conference, called the Clinton Global Initiative, the Republican nominee is scheduled to return to Washington and his Senate office to begin discussions about the economic rescue package.

Later in the afternoon, McCain and his rival, Sen. Barack Obama, are scheduled to meet at the White House with President Bush and congressional leaders.

Whatever. Speaking at Clinton’s forum is distasteful as hell, but McCain can’t seem to slake his need to praise Democrats.

McCain has stolen Obama’s thunder on the relief package, so that’ll be enough for me for now.

It seems Clinton and McCain have a good thing going. And its no accident that the Left is enraged at this. Just check out the tempest in DU and Kossackland!

Bill Clinton’s earned McCain’s kind words this week. He went on half a dozen national shows and couldn’t say enough good things about McCain and Palin. This gives non-moonbat Democrats permission to vote for McCain without being branded a “racist”, or at least, to join Bill Clinton in being branded a “racist” by the hard left.

Clinton also did not find any fault with McCain for wanting to delay the first debate, even adding that you couldn’t accuse him of running from the debate since he had asked for more of them.

And finally Clinton laid a very large part of the blame for the present crisis at the feet of the Democrats in the Congress who voted against several bills for better oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

No wonder the DUmmies are fuming.

Yup. Clintonistas and McCain are triangulating BO.

If I were a dedicated RAT, I’d be furious at Clinton too.

I am worried now. They say they have reached a deal. Didn’t take long.

I just hope the ‘favor’ doesn’t include a supreme court appointment!

“I just hope the ‘favor’ doesn’t include a supreme court appointment!”

I doubt it but I would not be surprised if some kind of deal was worked to get one of the Clintons into a McCain administration as part of a “non-partisan” advisory group or whatever. Probably Bill, since Hillary wants to be leader in the Senate and keep 2012 options alive.

If you just listen to Bill over the past week without considering anything else you would think he was a McCain supporter. Oh, that’s right-he is.

From Bill’s standpoint not only is BO a blood enemy now, but McCain’s VP is hotter than Obama’s VP, something not lost on Bill I’ll bet.

From the link:

McCain declared his support for efforts to combat global warming, dropping his stump speech demands to "drill here, drill now" in favor of more "green" rhetoric that would appeal to the crowd at the conference.

"To make the great turn away from carbon-emitting fuels, we will need all the inventive genius of which America is capable," he said. "We will need as well an economy strong enough to support our nation's great shift toward clean energy."

Shifting core principles --- sweet ! I'm voting for Sarah.
