Amazon.com has found a way to capitalize on one of the most interesting presidential elections in U.S. history.
The Seattle-based retailer introduced an interactive map of the U.S. showing which states are "red" or "blue" based on their online book purchases.
Although it's not meant to predict the next president, it suggests that the right's slant on the Obama-McCain matchup is more widely read than the left's.
For now, 36 states are pink or red. Six are blue. And eight, including Washington and Oregon, are purple, meaning residents are virtually split in their political book purchases between Republican and Democratic viewpoints.

I guess. I don’t particularly find the choice between a moderate Democrat and an openly racist class warfare Marxist to be particularly interesting.
More dangerous than “interesting”. A very treachersous time for our Republic.
How many libs buy the books, just to have them on their coffee table or bookshelf, to look cool or seem hip, or maybe start an “enlightened” conversation?

Yup, libs tend to watch tv and movies. It’s much less effort for them than reading. That’s why tv and hollywood produce so much left-leaning stuff, whereas the book market is far more balanced.
Proving once again that people who actually READ about politics vote Republican, people who EMOTE about politics and are “passionate” about their “issues” are democrats.
I sell on eBay and I can tell you flat out. Liberal books don’t sell for squat.

I wouldn't be surprised if libs mainly borrow books from the library. It sure doesn't support lib authors.
One liberal scam is to publish a bunch of liberal books that nobody will read and then have libraries across the country buy them by the truckload.
Well, if you interpret "interesting" in the same way that the Chinese wish bad things upon someone by saying "May you live in interesting times", then dangerous and interesting are one and the same. :-)
The speaker then argues that it shows conservatives' closed-networks of ideas that may be dangerous because they don't recevieve any new ideas. Meanwhile, liberals' networks of ideas are open. (Or, in the words of Ron Burt, they have many structural holes).
As a bookworm/junky, this is fascinating. It’s interesting to see what each state is reading. I need to go adjust my wishlist.
I think you are correct about that.
So there will be more conservatives like me not represented there, but more importantly, many, many poor Democrats who don't buy political books and especially from amazon because they either aren't on the web or aren't too savvy about how to make online purchases, no cc, etc.
That wasn't meant as a putdown or racist as I make online purchases from different vendors, jumping through all the hoops to register, order and then checkout which can all be confusing and you have to watch what you are doing. Lately the only thing I purchased online were 3 asters because I don't know where I could have found that kind where I live. They cost a little more due to shipping but I get exactly what I want and start many others from seeds which is cheaper.
Now I'll check out the map again. It's all a trick, a push map :-). My state is clearly blue right now, not what they are showing. But it's fun and a diversion.
Well, I'm a bit torn about this dichotomy. Ever since Palin arrived on the scene, I've been very passionate about this election. And I cannot stop reading about the election on the Web. We'll definitely need a whole lot of passion on our side to win this thing in November.
But to agree with you, I'll say this: the issues that resonate with lib voters are mainly emotional issues: Hatred for Bush and Palin, mesmerized devotion to their obama, murderous zeal against the inconvenience of an unwanted baby, shall I go on?
Even if libs could read, there would be no motivation. They are usually wrong, but rarely if ever in doubt.
