On the one hand, this could be a really good news. On the other hand, there could be a hidden message beneath the official announcement. That is,

If they really are killing that many ... or even if they're engaged in significant military action at all ... then they are doing fine -- we should be happy to let them deal with the bad guys on that side of the border.
Always reserving the right to continue hot pursuit, of course.
