Which candidate are most Independents choosing?

Posted on 09/28/2008 3:20:14 PM PDT by Jaguarmike

This is a question for you poll analysts. I know Obama's up in the polls, but I've heard McCain is doing very well among Independents. Is this true?

I’m an independent.

I am voting Keyes, unless he gets pulled - then probably Baldwin.

Polls are meant to SHAPE opinion, not measure it.

Ever wonder why Kerry “polled” so well before losing? The media was trying to create the air of inevitability then ... as they are now with Obama.

There was a good website posted earlier that showed even in the worst of time , like watergate , party identification never moved more than 4% from one Presidential election to the next. In 04 it was 37% democrat and republican even who vote as identified by party. All the polls are giving the
democrats a 12 point edge and that’s how Obama is showing
the small lead. If you used all the poll iternals and divied up the vote with just a 6 point edge to the dem’s ,
McCain leads.

Also , when you look at all the polls the internals don’t match the final match. McCain does lead in independants.
But also with woman who dem’s ussually lead by double digits. Obama only has about 75% of democrats votes.
Kerry got 89% of that and lost. Gore got even more.
Across the board there is no good news but bad news
for Obama , which is why the major polls don’t jive.
It’s the big over sample of dems’ vs republicans giving
Obama an engineered lead and is being used to form public opinion.

McCain definitely had a huge edge on independents up until a week ago. Now, I am not so sure. It would appear that Obama has gained some significant support in recent days as he has taken a lead in almost all polls and it seems states that looked to be a lock for McCain are now showing tight, even races. It is hard to say how much of this is reality and how much is media creation, but I am beginning to think this economic situation has not been good to McCain, and his campaign team seems to be 2 steps behind right now. They missed the opportunity to take the upper hand in this issue. We will see if McCain can pick it back up when this signs and he is back on the campaign trail. I am hoping for a solid set of commercials this week to chip away at the recent shift and regain his momentum.

My feeling is that they have not been sharp at all on this issue. The opportunity is there, but they have not taken it. Even if McCain is busy working, Palin and McCain team could be out spreading a stronger message.

Neither of them is a big Turd to the degree of Obambi and McStain.

McCain Feingold and McAmnesty are not forgivable lapses into liberalism.

FWIW I noticed that the graph line representing the approval of “independents” during the debate on CNN the other night often seemed to respond to the things Obama was saying.

McCain is doing the right thing regarding the Sub-prime mortgage mess in my humble opinion.

suspending his campaign shows that he’s serious about solving problems at the cost of losing valuable campaigning.

However, he’s not articulating why we are in the mess in the first place and how we will get out of it-via the Free market solution.

Some strategic missteps in getting out the message are letting 0bama suck up more of the oxygen than he should.

Obviously McCain isn’t afraid to call 0bama out, or speak truth to corruption-you’ve got to think that this will straighten itself out. I sure hope.

0bama doesn’t have much more than negative comments about Bush and McCain driving his ship right now.
If I’m a thoughtful voter-that ain’t gonna get it done.

Keyes has posted no such position.

And Iraq is stable enough we are already in early stages of withdrawing, so that issue is moot. Far more moot at this point, than the issue of closing the borders, on which McStain sucks as bad as Obambi.

If McStain had a stroke - putting more likelihood that Palin could take the Oval Office, I might vote Rebloodican. Failing that, they are now close to being as liberal as the Democrips.

If the Republicans fight off the Bailout altogether you can come to me and tell me how they are still conservatives.

The independents I know are doing write in. They are very angry about the lousy choices. However, my evidence is anecdotal and cannot be effectively extrapolated due to small sample size and limited geographic area.

I am a Republican and I voted Ron Paul in the primaries.

I will be voting Chuck Baldwin this year.
