LONDON A second-hand camera sold on eBay by a top MI6 agent held secret records used in the fight against Al Qaeda terrorists. Names, snaps, fingerprints and suspects academic records were found in the memory of the digital device.
Alongside them were photos of rocket launchers and missiles which spooks believe Iran is supplying to Usama Bin Ladens henchmen in Iraq.
And a hand-drawn graphic revealed links between active Al Qaeda cells with terrorists names and occupations.
Meanwhile a document marked "top secret" detailed the encrypted computer system used by real-life James Bonds working away from MI6s London HQ.

"Not only do they divulge secrets about operations, operating systems and previously unheard-of MI6 departments, but they could put lives at risk."
Special Branch were last night trying to trace the bungling M16 officer, who lives in the Home Counties. He faces the sack.
A Hertfordshire Police spokesman said: We can confirm we seized a camera after a member of the public reported it. Intelligence officers are investigating.
I thought the term was “most secret” in Great Britain.
I once bought a used computer from a college professor who evidently forgot his and his wife's personal info was still on it.Lucky for him I am not inclined to criminality. An amazing number of people sell or give away devices filled with information.
I believe "frightfully secret" is in there somewhere, too.

Not if the National Union of Spooks & Spies has anything to say about it.
I wonder if he gave the ebay seller good feedback.
“...I wonder if he gave the ebay seller good feedback...”
If he did, maybe that will be a mitigating factor at his trial.
;-)
No, he will be fire, in my opinion.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A source said: What a balls-up. This information would have been dynamite in the wrong hands.
Terrorism author Neil Doyle said: These are MI6 documents relating to an operation against al-Qaeda insurgents in Iraq. Its jaw-dropping they got into the public domain.
Not only do they divulge secrets about operations, operating systems and previously unheard-of MI6 departments, but they could put lives at risk.
Special Branch were last night trying to trace the bungling M16 officer, who lives in the Home Counties. He faces the sack.”
I like my version better ........:o)
Thanks Cindy !
Well now, sure you would!
LOL
In today’s world it seems such a goof is less likely from a trained professional. Yet human element is fallible ......
OPINION:
Well, I do understand humans err (I make mistakes everyday.), but in Britain...it’s been one thing after another. I don’t want to make a laundry list...it would just p.o. me and I don’t need that.
Sounds like alot of information to be stored on a camera, almost as if one were sneaking it out secretly.
Understand..... First rule, be it overt or covert collection, is it should be protected from cradle to grave. Agents are trained as to how to destroy media properly in house or afield. Not sure if an asset or NOC is as well trained. As well one would have to ask if MI6 was stenciled on this camera or Canon, Minox, Sony, Nikon.......that would seem to be a very serious mistake.
Denial, or ability to, is a tool that seems to have been abandoned in their operations . Collect in the field, assign titles and security levels etc in the secure offices back in the UK.
Too easy to arm chair QB this incident and others like it as we do not know what happened that caused this or other such event’s. Just as you say....opinion.
Stay Safe Cindy and I hope the rest of your day is easy !
Yep, well I won’t QB it...nor will I print that laundry list.
God bless you Squantos and have a good day.
