Australian authorities fear an 18-foot crocodile they describe as “shy” may have taken a camper from a riverside site in North Queensland, the Australian Associated Press reported Tuesday.

Arthur Booker, 62, who was on a two-day vacation with his wife, went to check a craypot at the Endeavour River Escape campsite around 8:30 a.m. He never returned.

Booker’s wife told AAP that when she went to check the site she found a snapped rope, large crocodile slide marks and her husband’s new video camera.

She retrieved the new camera. Reminds me of ‘Blazing Saddles’ and the hand railroad car.

Maybe he wanted to go.

There are man eaters everywhere.

How can you tell the difference between when a crock is “shy” versus when a crock is “sneaky?”

I guess if he looks hungry, he’s shy...

I'm personally hoping to be living in Alice Springs, Australia, in about four years' time. Quite probably the most isolated place on Earth, outside of Antarctica.

I'm currently located to your south, in Wiesbaden...

The Endeavour River is known for its teeming population of large saltwater crocodiles.

The period between 1985 and 2007 saw 17 croc attacks in Australia — five of them fatal.

thanks for the ping, we saw this on the ‘news’ last night...crocs are patient creatures, they watch and wait, and maybe the third or fourth time you come back to the same spot, they strike.
