WASILLA, Alaska - Sarah Palin and her husband have pieced together a uniquely Alaskan income that reached comfortably into six figures even before she became governor, capitalizing on valuable fishing rights, a series of land deals and a patchwork of other ventures to build an above-average lifestyle.

Nothing near john edwards or obama’s.

I’ll bet she didn’t get a 300K below market sweetheart deal on her house.

The msm is hoping that people are so stupid they confuse assets and income.

Anyone in a high cost area that has paid off their house, probably has assets of more than 1 million.

I assume their business assets are included.

What the heck is wrong with working your butt off at several jobs to provide your family with necessities?

I’d wonder if they had lots of the finer things and no income to support the finer things.

... Or confuse assets with net worth.

What are their liabilities (mortgage)? Plus five children saving for college.

This is the lowest of low.

“...build an above-average lifestyle...”

..snicker...”above average”...

Talentless journalists too stupid to know that their own sloppy hit piece makes a mockery of their dim journalistic skills.

The Palins are undoubtedly greedy capitalist pigs preying on the pristine natural resources, which had existed for eons, undisturbed under the careful guardianship of the highly benevelolent native peoples of color.

Good for her. She and Todd have achieved the American Dream by the sweat of their own brows. I can't imagine this story having any negative effect on her.

It speaks well of her ability to manage her household finances well, unlike Biden, who has about the same net worth after a much longer career with his snout in the public trough at a much higher salary.

It should also be noted that a million bucks in Alaska, where everything from gasoline to fresh fruit comes by boat or airplane, is like $600,000 down here.

Above average? At 44 earning 6 figures and saving for your kids’ college? Trust me, after college, she and Todd will be lucky to have much left.

It looks like Biden and Obama made tons more money, and just pissed it away like madmen, even with tons of back channel corruption deals cooking. And they might run the country. Amazing.

This absolutely burns me. This is ignorance, piled on bias, piled on smear by AP/Yahoo.

meanwhile, biden's net worth ranges from $50k-$200k (according to wiki).. and he's in his sixties! (doesn't he even have a house paid off??)

which would you rather have in charge? seems fairly simple.

and as i hear more about the dems pushing the 'tax the top 5%' (over $125k/yr individual) ... i get more and more aggravated with having to pay for people that partied through high school, didn't get the grades, never went to college, barely did 40 hrs/week and have no concept of sacrifice. why should i continue to give over 50% of my income (33% + 7.5 *2 == 48% ... more if i didn't live in an income tax free state)?? seriously, what do i get for it?

if all i made was $100k... that'd be about $48k per year. i have a tough time finding anything i buy that even comes close to that cost in a single year.

and obama is going to jack the tax rate higher? (just google obama and reparations for more fun).

screw this ... this is getting stupid

We know who Sarah is. We other “Rubies” can spot one a mile away, right, Ladies? :)

Proverbs 31:10-31(NIV)

10 [a] A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.

11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.

12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.

13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.

14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.

15 She gets up while it is still dark;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her servant girls.

16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.

18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.

19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.

21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.

22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.

23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.

24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.

25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.

26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.

28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:

29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”

30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

31 Give her the reward she has earned,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Wow! Did they break into their home and check the kids’ piggybanks? /SPIT

As I posted in another thread, this piece is outrageous. The opening paragraph is made to sound as if the Palins are really rich and she was just lying and faking it when she called herself "Joe Six Pack." But then when you continue and read it all the way to the end you realize that they are basing their claim that she's "rich" on the value of her property (and as we all know, owning a McMansion is no longer a true wealth indicator). Her husband built their current house on land they purchased by a lake. They're still paying down their mortgage. Most of her "$1 million" asset value comes from this lakefront property. They also have two little cottages - one of them is a little shack up in the area where they travel every year for their fishing business.

Continue reading the article and it's stated that the Palins' property and income are similar to most Alaskans. Most Alaskans own lots of land and have hunting cottages dotted all over the place. In a state the size of California, Texas, and Montana combined with a population of roughly 600,000 -- purchasing large swaths of land is not unusual!

You also learn that most Alaskans have small aircrafts to travel around in because there are many areas that cannot be accessed by roads, and you also learn that Todd Palin inherited his 1958 plane (the red Piper Super Cub seen in all the pictures), and it's been in his family for 20 years and is worth less than what these "journalists" paid for their Lexuses.

These "journalists" have basically run what is called a "wealth assessment" on the Palins. I worked in nonprofit, I know about research and wealth profiles. The profile issued here would not classify the Palins as "major gift" donor potential. They're comfortably upper middle class.

How do I know this? Well, because the bottom line is how much they make a year, and the fact is that the Palins make what Obama and Biden would consider middle class incomes. And that's not even factoring in the very real cost of living difference between Alaska and the rest of the country. Alaska has one of the highest, if not the highest, cost of living in the nation due to heating expenses. $200K a year in Alaska is like $140K in Ohio or Indiana. Either way, according to Obama's plan, they wouldn't be taxed because they're considered "middle class".

These "journalists" are trying to discredit her middle class status because they know that it provides a powerful connection with voters. Their behavior is beyond biased; it's intellectually dishonest. They're really hoping that readers don't carefully read the entire article and think about the conclusions drawn.

And they're lying about that. Please take a look at my post #45. I do wealth assessments for nonprofits. I know of what I speak when I say that the Palins are not "rich". This is totally dishonest journalism.

Again, take a look at my post #45 for my explanation.

Why don’t the authors list the assets of the other 49 State Governors and their spouses?

Due to the cost of living In Alaska $1,000,000 is about equal to $500,000 in other places outside the major cities.

Meanwhile...

The Washington Times reports that over the past decade, the speaker funneled $99,000 in rent, utilities and accounting charges from her political action committee to Financial Leasing Services, a real estate and investment firm owned by her husband, Paul Pelosi — a practice the House voted to ban last year with Pelosi's support (after which the bill failed in the Senate).

Since her husband became treasurer of the speaker's PAC to the Future, the payments have quadrupled, according to Federal Election Commission records.

According to the Times, the PAC's rent grew to four times what it was early this year; a Pelosi senior adviser told the paper this was due to San Francisco's expensive real estate market.
