I hear this with every Dem who has come down the pike since 1968: every one is "the worst socialist in history" and the "country will be destroyed if they come in." Well, newsflash: we survived Carter; we survived Clinton; and we'll survive Obama. I heard that Clinton would "never voluntarily leave power," and that he had all sorts of surprises planned so he could stay in on "emergency powers."

After a while, it gets old.

McCain is not nearly as good a candidate as Bush was, either time. I didn't agree with everything W said, but he at least had principles. McCain is all over the map.

At any rate, if you can't detect important structural differences in the election of 04 and the election of 08, neither I, nor anyone else, can help you.
