I was also in a major battle ground state in 2004. We had over one million registered voters in our county and boxes stacked to the ceiling to get out the vote. It was early October, yet no one was lined up to hit the pavement this early (and I was asking, why not?) Plus the “office manager” had the offices closed ALL day on Sundays! The same well meaning young woman sets up a voter registration drive at her megachurch and over 3/4 of the apps. turn out to be” D “registrations. I seriously wondered if she was sent to sabotage the Bush campaign, but it was more the case of inexperience as a result of cronyism.

After desperate pleas for help, the GOP org. finally came in with paid workers and picked up the slack for the final few weeks. In spite of a miserable local performance, we still beat Kerry, as a result of stellar performance in other counties :^)

Sorry, I was tired and thus rude. I live in Elko NV. NV. used to be safe until the liberals from California started infesting the state to get away from their high taxes. The Bush camp knew that we were a safe county as long as we got the vote out. It was a massive effort, it started early and lasted to the last minute.

Now, they just opened an office while Obama’s been here for months. I went down signed up to knock on doors again two weeks ago. No body has even called back. If Elko county doesn’t pull through for McCain this state is screwed.

It was this county that delivered the state four years ago. The Obama camp knows it and they are hell bent on taking it. Thats why he was here just last week. The McCain camp is making a big mistake here.
