If I’m right and I follow the Word of God, my spiritual self will live on after my physical death, and my reward will be a place in Heaven. If I’m wrong, I will simply cease to exist. By believing, I have a chance. By denying, you have none.

Ahh, Pascal's Wager. The best the libs can do with that is to say that you are reducing God/Christianity to a mere gamble and how can you be so shallow!!

I just laugh at them and say "it is what it is".

evolution is conjecture, not theory. A real theory is based on equations such as e=mc^2 or f=ma

I'm afraid that you'd flunk your 8th grade Science exam with that answer.

From Wikipedia - not that they are the be-all and end-all of everthing, but in this case it's well put:

In science a theory is a testable model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise verified through empirical observation.

A conjecture would be equivalent to a guess. The next step up is hypothesis, which would be a conjecture that is testable through some means. If the test is conducted and the hypothesis is not disproved, then it is a theory. Theories are repeatedly subjected to tests. As long as no test contradicts the theory, or as long as any such contradiction can be resolved through modification of the theory that does not then cause it to contradict any previous test, the theory remains valid.

There is no particular requirement that a theory be reducible to mathematical expression.

Leonard Pitts Jr. reminds me of a book title I saw at Barnes and Noble.. a few weeks ago "I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Aetheist"

Not only that but the Adam and Eve story is very complex in its
implications once you spend a little time pondering its meanings.

Want an interesting but loopy discussion, compare and contrast Adam and Eve’s hiding themselves with fig leaves with the scene where Oz is being exposed by Toto as a fraud.
“Don’t pay attention to the man behind the curtain!”

I really am God, never mind my nakedness behind my fig leaves.

Stretching things a bit am I? How often do Christians speak of the Spirit as working to expose the inner thoughts of men so that men may strive for even deeper repentence and reverence for God? How often do we attempt to justify
ourselves?

So, he apologizes for belittling her faith while at the same time promoting a lie about her banning books. Talk about an underhanded gesture.

Shouldn’t Pitts have asked about the man-god, Obama’s, beliefs in the bible? Barry claims to be a Christian. What parts of the Bible does Barry think aren’t true?

Curious minds want to know.

Book Description I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist argues that Christianity requires the least faith of all worldviews because it is the most reasonable. The authors lay out the evidence for truth, God, and the Bible in logical order and in a readable, non-technical, engaging style. A valuable aid to those interested in examining the reasonableness of the Christian faith, Geisler and Turek provide a firm challenge to the prior beliefs of doubters and skeptics.

Well lets take what we can get...perhaps his magnanimity
has a bit of Holy Spirit driven conscience behind it...having a dim sense that even his fellow atheists have gone way beyond the pale!

But see, the Bible also says do for one another, serve and sacrifice for the least of these among us. So when I hear the debate about creation, I wonder: where is the debate about ministering to the broken, lifting the fallen, tending the sick? Why isn't it at least as loud as this one is? Where is the urgent exhortation to step out from the confines of your own life and help someone else? That, too, is faith.

Why don't you ask Obama about that, and then ask about his brother George Obama, living in a hut in Kenya on $1.00 a month ?

I’m not clear what you mean. Do you mean to say that if you cannot express something in a set of mathematical formulae, then that thing has no structure?

yes.

for example the big bang theory, string theory...every theory in physics is based on math.

[my email to Lenny]

Mr. Pitts:

Regarding the story about Palin banning books from her local library during her term as mayor.

The list of books, which was from 1996, had several books on it (notably the Harry Potter books) which were not published until 1998.

Now, how do you suppose that happened? Does it engender the slightest bit of skepticism on your part? Make you question anything?

It happened because the entire story is bogus, the list is bogus, NO books were ever banned from the Wasilla library, the librarian in question retained her job until 1999. The entire story, like so many other scurrilous and truly demented stories about Sarah Palin, is a propaganda ploy. One which your nonexistent ability to perform basic research past your ability to Google something, like any 8-year old can do, led you to become a tool of the folks who promulgate these types of stories. I hope that makes you proud.

But I can appreciate your desire to morph the story into something about Creationism vs Darwinism, because changing the topic is a time-proven method of arguing something, isn’t it? On the other hand, if you were a journalist who had some degree of integrity, you would apologize for falling for a teenage internet blogging trick. But, I suppose you could excuse yourself for falling into the same trap that every news outlet has apparently fallen into.

What’s great about this is that in the wonderful future Mr. Obama has in mind for us, where free speech is discouraged (see Missouri) and orignal thought is discouraged, hopefully you will be able to keep your job rewriting Democratic talking points, and you’ll never have to have any of your own original thoughts again.

Just be happy!

very truly yours,

This is easy to answer in the view of Faith in the Absolute Creator.

Similarly with your question of original parents breeding and subsequent generations of “incest”, imagine if Eve hadn't sinned and how child birth would have been. Would we deliver babies the way a platypus does? A mammal who lays eggs—now how much easier would that be!

Our Heavenly Father created Adam & Eve PERFECTLY. Thus, the offspring of these two are less likely to be affected by genetic defects.

But because of the pollution of sin in the world, the suffering of health increased with the increase of sin.

In the Fullness of Time, God's Word, Jesus, the Son of God robed in flesh showed us Divine Obedience.

Grace builds on nature and our Perfected Will (when and only when we are in Communion with God) seeks to love outside our own.

In St. Paul's beautiful poem of Love, 1 Corinthians 13, he mentions that love does not seek its own interests. I've also seen this translated as “does not seek its own” or “its own kind”.

Love seeks outside the self but always within the laws of Nature. If our original parents had never disobeyed Nature's Creator, Nature would never have been thrown into chaos which demands strict obedience for mere physical survival. But because our original parents fell from Grace, mankind had to “toil for his bread” with self-discipline since God “cursed the ground.”

The laws of the Garden of Eden are the Laws of Heaven and could theoretically be imagined as a Cinderella story of animals and angels delivering our daily diet and providing in a way that only a cartoon animation can simulate. But our reality today is that we must continue to master our fallen nature with the great assistance of Divine Providence; and, we must also take dominion of Nature which is thrown into chaos because of our own failings. Many species have gone extinct without our help already, and it's right and proper to be the custodians to put order to chaos.

Not least of which is the conundrum of how, short of incest, humanity reproduced itself if there was only one family on earth.

Who claims it *wasn't* incest? This is a bit like worrying over "the conundrum of how, aside from gravity, objects don't get flung off of the rotating Earth."
